About this deal

But alas, it is also from where three-year-old Lily Murphy went missing after playing hide-and-seek thirty years ago as Joanna later learns from her neighbour, Frances Burke next door. There were quite a few characters to keep track of and I was left questioning everyone and whether they were behind the disappearance.

With the help of her new neighbours, Joanna attempts to find out what happened to Lily and what role she played in it. Joanna becomes obsessed with finding out what happened and the ensuing story is tense and gripping, showing how the past is never really left behind and making it an incredibly hard book to put down. You won’t be at all disappointed and just want to read more and more from this wildly talented author. Next door to Joanna is Fran, who was a teenager when Lily went missing and is reluctant to help Joanna dig up the past but Joanna’s own mother-in-law, gossipy, overbearing Susie Stedman is more than willing to fill her daughter-in-law in on all the drama and scandal of years past. Many thanks to Netgalley and Random House UK, Transworld Publishers for the much appreciated arc which I reviewed voluntarily and honestly. They say females experience heart attacks differently to men and honestly I wonder at times if reading an Andrea Mara book is in a way a similar experience. It’s a sublime read from beginning to end full of tension, suspense, unease and endless twists and turns and revelations right until the very last page. I was delighted to see that Andrea Mara had written a new book, given that the other three of hers that I've read have all been bangers.

I couldn't stop turning the pages to find out what happened next as the gripping, clever plot twists and turns its way to a dramatic denouement. This story shows how entwined this community was back in the eighties, where everyone knew everyone, how rumours spread and ruined lives while the truth remains well hidden. This book is one belter of a crime thriller which I devoured in an afternoon, I just had to keep on reading I HAD TO KNOW THE TRUTH! A smart, well-plotted, tense and suspenseful read with a cast of characters about whom you’ll find yourself constantly second-guessing. But there were so many red herrings, twists and turns that it was impossible to work out what had happened to Lily so I gave up and just immersed myself in this wonderfully involving book!

Her parents try to stay positive, but they know this peaceful Dublin suburb will never be the same again. Very strong characters and a plot with enough points of difference from others in the genre meant I was gripped from start to finish. The only problem now is I’ll have to wait for Mara’s next release but the good news is she’s signed a deal with Transworld for two more books! There were almost three different plots happening, with the Joanna/Lila strand of the story adding to the tension, and even though I wouldn't describe this is a super pacy plot in itself, seeing the mystery unravel through different perspectives, and being faced with cliff-hangers on the end of most chapters, I was completely captivated.

Chris Whitaker**Don't miss No One Saw A Thing, the gripping, twisty new thriller from Andrea Mara, out now! She questions the neighbours and she suspects the disappearance is connected to an event from her own past. You jog along going with the flow then the author chucks in some absolute bombs of information that you feel as if you’re hanging on the edge of a cliff.
