Every turn feels like it has several interesting decision points, which is really nice in a game aimed at a more casual market. The hero cards are a combination of the cutest woodland animals with the cutest little faces but you wouldn’t want to mess with them! Item, Challenge and Modifier cards can all be played at any point during the game to either aid you in your quest or to disadvantage your “friends” preventing them from winning the game. The game also includes items you can equip to your heroes, 1V1 challenge cards, and roll modifiers to tip the odds in your favor.

However, these games are over so quickly (5-10 minutes) that if they come around we just shuffle up and restart. You can’t really plan ahead because, at any moment, a failed die roll or unexpected card from an opponent could derail your plans. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great game as it is, but there just weren’t enough challenge cards to prevent your opponent’s army growing before it was too late.Modifier cards can be played on your turn or an opponent’s turn to raise or lower roll values, while challenge cards are played in response to an opponent and cause you both to roll the D6s.

Druid Deer protect your army, such as ‘Maegisty’ and ‘Doe Fallow’ … took me too long to figure that one out. Here to Slay is a competitive role-playing fantasy strategy card game that's all about assembling a party of Heroes and slaying monsters (and sometimes sabotaging your friends too) from the creators of Unstable Unicorns. My wife and I regularly play this game with just the two of us, at which point it’s actually entirely possible for someone to draw four or five different classes off the bat and for the other player not to draw the interactive cards needed to slow them down. For example, an 8+ roll is a successful roll and a 5- is a failed roll) Kill three unique monsters, and you win the game!
