To use, simply turn on the tap – or have a timer do it for you – and the water pressure causes it to pop up out of the ground. This model is a strange looking little thing, almost resembling a mini surface to air missile launcher or futuristic tank.

It doesn't take much to figure out which one is going to boast the better build quality and longevity. These sprinklers contain a long plastic or metal tube with many openings and move back and forth, producing a fan-shaped waterfall effect. They have half-decent pressure, so it was an excellent place to use it over the last couple of years to test its durability as well as its overall performance. As with nearly all modern models, you can adjust the spray radius on the Orbit travelling sprinkler within a 15 to 50 feet diameter. Better still, a nozzle cleaning tool is included to help clean blocked nozzles should they become blocked for any reason.Best overall sprinkler: Hozelock 2972P0000 Rectangular Sprinkler 180m2 [proven in testing personally] great overall value, build quality, and practical performance – easy to see why man lawn specialists are using this no thrills but solid solution. I also like water timers as you can’t forget to water your lawn, plus you can water late in the evening or morning when the water pressure is usually at its best.

What I will say, is that its better suited for smaller or medium-sized lawns like I have at the moment. The mid-sized sprinkler in Gardena’s AquaZoom line, the AquaZoom M, is a fantastic device for watering, with easy adjustments for spray range, spray width and water flow, and the kind of build quality cheaper models just can’t match – all backed up by a four-year warranty.

That being said, it’s not my ‘Best Pick’ but it’s a much cheaper alternative and the plastic parts seem to be good quality.
