The secondary characters here were incredible, I loved Jesse and Lena and their twin relationship, it was hilarious to read but I need Lena to find love, too! Starting in Roman times and bringing the story right up to the present day, Pike’s comprehensive survey charts the astonishing evolution of the vessels used to combat fire from the river, pays homage to the intrepid crews of these often unwieldy craft, and vividly recreates some of the most devastating conflagrations the capital has ever seen. This book encourages us to reflect on our own relationship with science and serves as an important reminder of why we should continue learning as adults. But every summer must come to an end, and letting go is hardest when you've finally found where you belong.

I think it would be great to have a pile of paper on hand and make a bunch of stuff to play with after reading Float. this story follows waverly, a 17yr old girl from alaska staying with her aunt for the summer attempting to escape her divorced parents who have been fighting over who gets to have her for the summer, then comes blake, the super-hot next door neighbor and welcomes waverly into his circle of friends, as the two grow closer, waverly's fortunes begin to look up but every summer must come to an end, and letting go is hardest when you’ve finally found where you belong. The muted palette and muddy features bring to mind the inkiness and texture of newspaper and the slight bleed of ink they always leave behind.While almost every individual part of the book was great, the way that it all fit together felt a little confusing sometimes. they had plenty of sweet moments with a simple brush of the knuckles that had me giggling so bad lol. I've been desperate for a new fix and seeing Waverly's story unfold was so sweet + fun and gave me *all* of the emotions. With more than 250 fascinating illustrations, Fire-Floats and Fireboats is certain to appeal to lovers of London and aficionados of history and technology, but will also be enjoyed by a wide range of general readers. I am a very poor float fisherman but am very very fond of it, and watching that float intently whilst thinking of nothing else is time well spent for me.

This sweet summer romance, complete with a swoon-worthy boy next door, is begging to be thrown into your beach bag. Blake’s super protective of her (though not in a possessive way), and the two have a lot of cute banter and I absolutely loved reading about them.
