Yet the Forsaken’s machinations did not fall with him, and even now the false car’a’carn, Couladin, leads the Shaido Aiel to the Dragonwall to ravage the lands beyond.

Rand refuses to listen to Moiraine, prompting her to give an oath that she will not attempt to manipulate him. The heroes wait in Tel’aran’rhiod until they’re spun back into the Pattern but since she has been torn out, it’s hard to say what will become of Birgitte.Everything revolves around Rand, but he is the cipher being pushed and pulled while digging in his heels until he is ready to make whatever move he thinks will get him closer to uniting the world behind his banner and against the Dark One. Rand has appointed the Maidens to guard Egwene at the watchtower, to keep them out of the main fighting. Ronde Macura keeps Elayne and Nynaeve sedated with a tea made from forkroot, but Thom and Juilin arrive and turn the tables on her. Thom and Juilin report rioting in Samara, apparently started when the Whitecloaks and the Dragonsworn began fighting over a boat at the docks.
