About this deal

Like with your own kids, or if someone asks you to help them, or if a relative passes away or moves into assisted living.

When you get to that place, if that container (shelf, closet, box) is already full, then you have to do one-in-one-out.For all ebook purchases, you will be prompted to create an account or login with your existing HarperCollins username and password. I realized that I never wore the huge, bulky, hand-made, six-foot gifts because they made me feel like a hippopotamus.

Freeing the space to use the things you actually use is more important than keeping tons of extra on the outside chance it will someday find use.

The whole book, every chapter and every strategy, helps you make real progress in whatever amount of time you have available. No more worrying about whether or not the item sparks joy, or has value, or if I might need it someday. Highly recommended for someone who wants to de-junk their house but who isn't quite ready yet for the extremes of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. Did I really need to read yet another book full of tips and tricks that would leave me feeling worse?

One of the best parts of How To Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind is the section on decluttering. Every object doesn’t need to be defended to stay, it just has to fit the container without taking away from the space needed, either for activities or other stuff. In Decluttering at the Speed of Life, decluttering expert and author Dana White identifies the mind-sets and emotional challenges that make it difficult to declutter. As the older generation needs to downsize, having some tips on how to help them through the process is welcomed.

In my tier list, this book might actually get placed at the top cheese tier of "Popular for a Reason". Reddit and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to provide you with a better experience.

But I can say that the book is clear, and that the repetition that happens with each room can be annoying, but also great if you don't want to leaf back to the stepping point of decluttering.

In Organizing for the Rest of Us, Dana teaches us how to make great strides with minimal effort in every room of our home. It's best to start with the easiest to toss or donate and then get used to the idea and get used to the wonderful feel of functional space before heading into emotional attachment territory. So this book is really about talking that first step, so that the rest of housekeeping falls into place. Her approach is simple- deal with the least agonizing (like trash or daily drop pile stuff) and working up to the big decision stuff. There is no stuff put aside in keep piles to deal with later so the house doesn’t become more messy in the process of decluttering.
