About this deal

Whip is the only symptom card you can play on another player’s turn, and it allows you to stop their movement if they are trying to move past you in a way you don’t want. Having played Tortuga 1667 from the same designer, I came away from that thinking that the social deduction there was similarly broken. On the surface Bristol 1350 is part cooperative teamwork, part racing strategy, and part social deduction.

In fact, for me, this is what helps the game along, since it’s not even social deduction, it’s mathematical suspicion.

When it seemed the universe had decided I was not to receive my package, Sammy defied nature itself to ensure it arrived and I even got a badge. But over the course of the remaining game, there’s nothing preventing a future mingle or remedy from decreasing your symptom number below six — and then lying about having caught the plague earlier when the end-game reveal comes around. I wonder if you played 2 or 3 rounds, awarding slightly more points for a Healthy win, if that would tweak the incentives just a bit.

At first, I couldn’t believe that Travis was so consistently comfortable with taking a hammer to the very thing that was going to pay the bills and feed his family. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. One fun item that was included in the campaign was a link to Next Level Board Gaming who put together a 3D printed board, painted and ready for Bristol 1350.

The instruction manual has sections dedicated to strategies to think about and other ways to play the game, as well as background information on the setting of Bristol, and the Black Death itself. To put it another way, Bristol 1350 is a terrible social deduction game — and a real zinger of a party game. A precarious position, as anyone who’s sat down at a table with someone who games their games can attest.

While this is a nice idea to push, you do still need to face that this is a game where dead players don’t have a lot to do. This is a very direct sequel to the first scenario, featuring many of the same cards, and another Villain drawn from the. An interesting side note here…if you are pushed off and left behind, but you were healthy, you can reveal that fact and the person who pushed you dies of shame and also gets to sit out the rest of the game with you. I had noticed the increasing mentions about the rise of fascism in other countries (1930's) as the show went on, with the usual talk of not needing to worry about it. These coins are taken by a player when they play an “Alms” remedy card, and they can choose to hold on to the coin or pass it to another player. The Black Death certainly wasn’t a time of fun and games, even if Bristol 1350 happens to be a fun game about the Black Death. Just FYI: the new aspects to Zoo Vadis (unique powers and peacocks) were added in (bolted on) by the good doctor himself. The art, on the other hand, really brings out the flavor of the game, and our group spent a lot of time just admiring the different characters. In Battlestar Galactica, Dead of Winter, and Dark Moon, a crisis check might fail through no fault of the players. I was an eager-eyed aspiring designer in Columbus, Ohio, and I had the opportunity to meet the family behind Facade Games.

I appreciate the sturdiness of the map, and how all the pieces, including the mat fit into the box, which is shaped like a book.

The signalling thing is a key point, but as you say Dan over 15 minutes it’s hopefully going to be forgivable. The opposite reason though – the tells were so blatant with no room for misinterpretation that everyone knew all the other players’ roles a quarter of the way through the game.
