The bandages showed some discoloration where she’d oozed through, but it was a big step up from moss and a dirty wool shirt. Adventure and danger do, it's true, come to the town in the end and Viv plays her part in defeating it, but I was pleased to see that Viv's success was due as much or more to the friendships she's made as to her fighting prowess (in contrast to the episode at the start where she fails just because she tries to do it all herself).Sarah Rice, also in Booklist, claims the book "cements [Baldree's] talent for cozy fantasy, engaging characters, and anachronistic references that would be at home in a Discworld novel. If you want a quiet book with a great setting, side characters and just warm, cozy feelings than look no further.

As before, this is an LGBT friendly novel with Val's status as a lesbian recognized even if her canon romance hasn't shown up yet. It tried to bring in too many other elements and sort of forgot what made this type of story special in the first place. The in-universe fiction that Val reads is also greatly entertaining as we see her slowly warm to spicy romance novels to pass her afternoons. This is a low-stakes fantasy that delivers exactly what's advertised: a wholesome, cozy novel that feels like a warm hug.He has those gentleman/butler vibes that I have always found adorable which is why I loved him the minute he appeared on the page. i dont want to give too much away, but if the author is setting up things the way i think he is, i am going to be begging tor every time for an arc because truly this series will probably become my favorite setting of all time. Baldree creates an imaginative and fully-developed world, "peopled" with rich, warm, likeable characters. It took me a little while to become invested in this story, but once I did I couldn't leave this wonderfully crafted world.

Viv had been lucid for less than a single hour, and she thought the view might drive her insane if she had to endure another. Some bittersweetness is inevitable, but Baldree reminds us that the past - even our mistakes - is the fertile soil where we plant the seeds of a beautiful future - C. I'm a huge fan of owlbears, sorry gryphets, so I'm going to be biased towards any book that includes them.i am sure you guys know this about me, but seeing how travis created fern to describe these things in this book really hit me so unexpectedly hard and right in my very heart and soul. and if we do decide to close that door and lock it, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the moment of living inside that room for a tiny bit of your life - and that doesn’t make anything lesser, or greater, but it can create happiness and memories that you really can take with you during every adventure in life. Just like Legends and Lattes, this was a cosy fantasy set in a small town with many characters with distinct personalities that cross paths.
