I really enjoyed The Girl Before so eagerly awaited Delaney’s second novel, Believe Me, which the author (Tony Strong, writing as JP Delaney) notes is a re-work and re-publication of a manuscript published 17 years earlier. If you're unworried by this then you will find that the plot is very twisty, but superbly constructed. In reality it’s a way of telling readers exactly what happens… until we’re offered a couple of different versions of the murder itself!

The story had some great twists and turns, leading up to an intense and gripping ending that I never saw coming! The best way for me to explain this would be to use my favorite analogy — Yes… I’m a nerd… I have a favorite analogy.

Delaney showcases this power in his book, both through Baudelaire’s life and poetry, and through the story of the novel itself.This is an excellent read and will be a bookclub treasure as there are a lot of breathless discussions to have. After moving in, she discovers that a previous tenant, Emma, met a mysterious death there - and starts to wonder if her own story will be a re-run of the girl before.
