About this deal

Now I'm using Pelikan's Brilliant Black and although it's not as vibrant as Rotring's own ink, it still isn't bad. I wasn’t sure that I’d like the length of it but once I was working with the pen, I forgot all about it. Line width variance was pleasingly simple – a slight turn of the nib produced a noticeable change in stroke size and I’m looking forward to putting the Art Pen through its paces on a larger test piece. I got these 3 fountain pens recently and this is my review on how they function as pens for drawing.

I’ve noticed that when a fountain pen nib has a big round “ball” shape at the tip, the pen will be very smooth, but you won't have crisp line feeling when you drawing. Have only ever cleaned it or flushed it when changing inks and then only with water, other than that it just gets to stay inked. I added some water after the initial drawing had dried to see how much the lines were affected by a wet brush. I'm used to fineliners and the ocassional brush tip and fine dip nib, so this 'extra fine' nib seems fairly chunky for such a designation. But since the ink is fast drying and waterproof, there is a chance that it will eventually clog the channel of the pen. The Lyra Art pen is available in 36 loose colours includingfluorescent and metallic gold and silver permanent, opaque colours which can beused on dark surfaces .

You can use the Platinum Carbon Ink, but do wash the pen occasionally especially if you're not using it for long periods of time. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. I have marked the experience as 7 as I was not put off and nobody stopped me or moaned when I asked to open the box to look inside. The only slight drawback is it is very long and does not fit in my pencilcase but don't care really .The Lyra Art Pen is a superb, artist quality tool for allcolouring techniques, artistic drawing and sketches. The one thing I wonder about is the clip - why on earth does the thing even have a clip, I can't imagine where it can be useful with this size. The pen features a high-grade stainless steel nib and is available in a variety of sizes, ideal for choosing the perfect size for your handwriting style. The lines are clean and distinct, but smooth enough on the edges for even new users to be comfortable with. Too thin for big fingers, too long to be taken seriously, there really is no need, even for an art pen to be so long.

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I think the nibs on the Rotring come complete with the section a bit similar to the TWSBI idea, I haven't pulled that apart, ever, so I cannot tell you if it is possible.

However, it’s essential to maintain the same amount of pressure throughout or you may end up with patchy writings (darker and lighter patches for areas where greater and lighter pressure are applied respectively). Thank you Teoh, if I ever have both (which will probably happen) I will tell you how do those nibs compare. It doesn't seem bothered what diet of ink it is fed, it just lays down ink reliably, never remember it either skipping or flooding.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. Following on from my (very) recent review of the CS Belliver Bracket Brown, I thought I would have a little fun and have a go at reviewing a much cheaper and much older pen from my collection pen, one that I have had in my possession for just a touch over 25 years now. The grip section has a series of ribs the section being quite lengthy so the finger position can move up and down for a more comfy writing position. I plan to try out some noodlers inks and in need of pens to try it with these pens have been earmarked for "sacrifice".So this pen has a wider channel (the slit in the feed) than other pens so there is less chance of ink getting stuck while in the pen. The pen gets thrown into my work bag or dropped into my top drawer, not abused just laid wherever it may be needed. I was surprised at how easily the ink flowed and the amount I could vary the line width with only a slight turn of the barrel. Or one can just ignore all of that, and do like I did at the time, rushed home, inked it and started writing and didn't give the appearance another thought.
