When the Earth’s population hits the eight billion mark, every person is given their own personal genie with one wish. There is a rumor amongst the genies of an "ultimate wish" that'll permanently satisfy all human needs and desires forever, ending the cycle of genies, but none of them know what it is; a single genie gets left behind to live on the new world each time to try and figure it out. In reality, they resemble glowing trees/coral with hundreds of branches, each end tipped with a prismatic ball. Nearly two billion people, a fourth of Earth's population, die within eight days of the genies' arrival.

Morphic Resonance: A genie looks a little like the person they're assigned to — they'll look about the same age and have markings similar to their hair, facial hair, and glasses (if any). They're also happy to be consulted for context and advice up to the point that the wish is actually made and will fulfill a wish to the full spirit of the wish rather than the letter of the wish. The Remnants of Ernest Hemingway, Dorothy Parker, and Jim Morrison all go poof during issues 2 and 3, with Ed and Robbie worrying that this could happen to June if Ed were to die. Within seconds, the world is transformed forever, not into a paradise but into a collision of desires as varied as the humans who made them — from getting superpowers and seeing dinosaurs to having a parent come back to life and looking pretty. Image did a great job of producing a beautiful book that really shows off Browne’s eccentric and colorful art.

While these pages may appear humorous, they tell a more morbid story: the diminishing number of wishes and people. We all love to fantasize about being rich or having superpowers or everyone loving us, but I bet most of us haven't thought this whole thing through. Eight seconds after magical genies grant every person on earth one wish, the world is transformed forever.
