They have different backs and each hand has some of each so you will always have some to choose from. Besides cards, you have a starting empire card to give you resources (as well as an end-game scoring condition to nudge you in a certain direction). This game plays from 1 up to 5 players straight out of the box with minimal changes to make the game flow at any player count. Players should have a few games under their belts before attempting this campaign… but that’s primarily so that the new twists won’t overly slow down gameplay. I get myself cards that will generate tons of resources during the production step (allowing me to make more cards) and I forget an important fact: the game is not as long as you think it is.

My only concern is minor, and it’s that I have a sense that the game may start to feel repetitive without expansions to add new cards.

Players can collectively choose to use the easier side, where each player starts with a different set of materials, or the harder side, where each player starts with exactly the same materials.To illustrate this, if you complete a card with Energy production during the Mineral phase, it will add to the Energy production that round. The collection has certainly expanded over the last few years and we've been making up for lost time! If you produce gray, and use those grays to build a card that produces black or green, during the black or green production phase that card will activate, even though it was built this turn.

Speaking of nudging, there are starting civilizations that ever so slightly give you something to aim for; something I appreciate in otherwise possibly overwhelming games.Once you complete all 5 resources, the card upgrades earn you supremacy bonuses during production, recycling bonuses and eventually 15 victory points. Sure – a 5:1 exchange rate is deplorable at best, but a) at least the option is there, and b) it strongly incentivizes you to make the most of your engine. After the first Campaign you can start the second Campaign by opening its box (the big purple one with the masks logo). Some of the data that are collected include the number of visitors, their source, and the pages they visit anonymously.

In Draft Phase players will each obtain 7 face-down drafted cards from the deck and take one card and pass the rest to either their right or left. You don’t generate a ton of resources initially, so you’ll probably be burning a lot of cards to get things.It adds some new twists to the game, and introduces new possibilities, and although I am loath to play a card that reduces my cube income I did gain some benefits from playing a few of the new cards, painful as it was. Once players have chosen seven cards each, they can then choose whether to discard those cards for a single resource of a specific type printed on the card, or to try and build the cards. It may not be the most efficient way to play but it does mean you never feel like you’ve got no way to progress.
