From the theme music I was expecting a comedy but it turned into an above average thriller I thought the 2 leads bounced off each other well and mary germaine held her own as genuine costar but the other men in the house were poorly written. Mary Germaine is tough but warm and attractive, and the other two actresses are also very engaging, particularly gorgeous Patricia Owens, who sadly has only a small part as a model in this, but went on to better things in the US. Filmaffinity - Movieaffinity | Filmaffinity is a movie recommendation site based on the concept of Movie Soulmates. Mary Germaine is great though, and there are some attempts at lightness of touch which raises this above the average B potboiler of the time. House of Blackmail is a 1953 British drama film directed by Maurice Elvey and starring Mary Germaine, William Sylvester and Alexander Gauge. The other film is really a rough print with opening casts incomplete but I suspect adding it as a bonus was the only way it would get a DVD release. In a remote mansion Army Officer (William Sylvester) and Carol (Mary Germaine) only escape the charge of murder by finding the real killer. Four stars for this one, although I found it cosy rather than scarey, right down to the music - pure 1950s BBC Home Service! The film is quite fast paced and benefits from having humour throughout, although there isn’t really much tension and the actual investigation is a bit laborious.

His artist sister, Carol (Mary Germaine) tries to get him out of it by agreeing to meet Markham in his old country house. The investigation reveals numerous possible suspects leading the couple to try and find the real killer themselves. The 'Six Men' are a gang of six criminals that Scotland Yard is unable to pin a charge against even though they are positive of the identities. I know I recently said this about a previous film I watched but this is very Edgar Wallace, Maybe I only feel that way because I've been reading him lately but then again his impact on mysteries and thriller since the 20s is not only undeniable but prodigious. House of Blackmail is a 1953 British second feature [1] drama film directed by Maurice Elvey and starring Mary Germaine, William Sylvester and Alexander Gauge.

The story follows a soldier, Jimmy (Sylvester), and his girlfriend Carol (Mary Germaine) who are implicated in the murder of blackmailer Markham (Alexander Gauge) at his isolated mansion. House of Blackmail é um filme de drama britânico de 1953, dirigido por Maurice Elvey e estrelado por Mary Germaine, William Sylvester e Alexander Gauge. William Sylvester (2001: A Space Odyssey) and Mary Germaine both give good performances in their respective roles as Jimmy and Carol, the army officer and his girlfriend who have to work to try and solve the murder that has occurred, after Jimmy becomes a suspect in the case. After some sparring from Jimmy, Carol agrees to pay the money, but is unable to withdraw it from her bank until morning.
