About this deal

The names for the chapters often didn’t make sense to me because they included a classical piece name (as it’s the focus of the story), but it wasn’t distracting. Onda’s passion for music is immense and infectious, bursting out of each of her characters with their unique views of the craft. These cookies help provide information on metrics the number of visitors, bounce rate, traffic source, etc. The Things That We Lost is a beautifully tender exploration of family, loss and how far we will go to protect the ones we love. Throughout Honeybees and Distant Thunder, one thing is apparent: Onda’s passion for music is undeniable.

Honeybees and Distant Thunder is Onda’s third book to be translated into English, this time with Haruki Murakami veteran Philip Gabriel taking the reins. So whenever I go into my library and spot a name that I can distinguish as probably not the standard white American, I tend to grab the book immediately and read what’s on the book jacket. The atmosphere of the novel, set mostly on this wild Greek island, echoes strongly the classical tragedies of Greece. Abelhas e trovoada ao longe" é um livro sobre o poder da música, jornadas de superação e grandes amizades.I also particularly enjoyed the way that Aya and Jin's otherworldly, detached natures were described. Tender and intense, Honeybees and Distant Thunder is the unflinching story of love, courage and rivalry as three young people come to understand what it means to truly be a friend. Or will it be child of nature, Jin, a pianist without a piano, who carries the sound of his father’s bees wherever he goes? Przyznam, że nieco mnie śmieszyły już w pewnym momencie, bo były bardzo pretensjonalne, ale ponownie - nie znam się na tym, może to wybrzmiewa naturalnie dla kogoś, kto się muzyką zajmuje. Jin unnerves everyone from the get-go because he acts like he’s doing whatever he wants, but he ends up doing just that.

Nie przekonał mnie wątek Księcia Pszczół, jego postać wydawała mi się mało autentyczna, zbyt ekscentryczna; podobnie niektóre dialogi burzyły harmonię swoją nienaturalnością.

It’s obvious he’s a genius, despite having rarely touched a piano outside of his time with the Maestro, but he ends up passing and going to Tokyo. Honeybees and Distant Thunder was the most celebrated novel of the year when it first published in Japan, winning two major literary awards: the Japan Booksellers Prize and the Naoki Prize (no other novel has won both in the same year). Translated literature is harder to find at my local library, but I cherish it whenever I can spot it. Fiquei muito comovida com esta característica do livro e dei por mim a chorar ao ler algumas partes, não de tristeza porque não é um livro triste, mas de felicidade por eles, por tudo o que alcançaram ao longo das 2 semanas.
