About this deal

Her Last Holiday is a psychological suspense drama about a woman looking for answers following the death of her younger sister at a “Wellness Retreat”. So when Tom Wade is released from prison and runs another retreat for Soul Shrink, Jenna’s Sister Fran decides that she is going to get answers. I would like to thank both Netgalley and Avon Books UK for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. This one features a particularly unlikeable cast of characters, (not necessarily a bad thing but you do actually need one protagonist to care about) and confuses the reader further by having many of them change names. did I tell you there were so many spooky supporting characters in this book act like innocent but keeping their own secret agendas to themselves?

How nice it is to read a thriller from the POV of three women with their own distinctive voices, good character arcs, and not running around being overly emotional and silly. Fran's time at the retreat in Wales really dragged and felt repetitious with the story becoming a really slow burn to get to the point where we find out what happened to Jenna. Tom, the leader of the SoulShrink retreat, has had trauma in his own life, which led him to where he is.Ebooks fulfilled through Glose cannot be printed, downloaded as PDF, or read in other digital readers (like Kindle or Nook). Taylor’s writing style is engaging and I have enjoyed her past work, so I look forward to reading what she releases next. L. Taylor books prior to this and I have always found her writing engaging and addictive but there was something missing from this outing. Thanks to the pressure and guilt tripping of her miserable parents who lost rest of their sanities after sudden disappearance of their young daughter, Fran attends to the same retreat because the same health guru couple Tom and Kate reopen the place after Tom has been set free from two years long prison time.

After his release from prison, Tom is clearly still troubled by what happened at the retreat in Gozo but is it guilt he is feeling or something else? I bought this book the moment it became available on Kindle, and while still only 30% in, I then bought the hard back too. So, what does Fran’s mother do, when she learns that Tom Wade has been released after serving his two year prison sentence, and that he will be running another retreat? Now Jemma’s sister, Fran, is determined to uncover the truth after she finds out that Tom is about to run another retreat. Fran’s sister Jenna disappeared two years ago on a wellness retreat in Gozo that went terribly wrong.I am a fan of alternating perspectives throughout a book and thought that it was interesting to see how various situations were seen from the different POVs. Both of the characters keep secrets and as they discover more lies of each other’s, they never hesitate to use them as leverage. This book was intense, drama-filled, heavy with suspense, and kept me at the edge of my seat the entire time.

The sessions led by Tom are ridiculous, he plays at being a psychologist while being an untrained lay person who just got out of prison. We also discover that some characters appear in both time lines, leaving me wondering, again, what secrets people were hiding. L. Taylor’s eighth crime novel, will be published on 29th April 2021 by Avon Books, an imprint of HarperCollins UK. Two years ago, Fran's sister, Jenna, disappeared on a wellness retreat in Gozo that went terribly wrong.

Fran's quirky character was well developed and I enjoyed the supporting characters of the other wellness retreat attendees. Told in alternating timelines, then and now, from both Jenna's and Fran's point of view, plus one of the wellness guru's perspective, this is a fast paced thriller.
