About this deal

While some scientific aspects in the book might have changed in the meantime, the book is still as valuable today as it was almost 40 years ago. He appeared on many television programs, wrote a regular column for Parade, and worked to continually advance the popularity of the science genre. Some 26 years ago (1980) these programmes were relatively rare and a classic 13 one hour episode science programme entitled the Cosmos was presented as a personal view by one Carl Sagan ( sometime participant of various NASA space programmes and cosmological investigations then Director of Planetary studies at Cornell University) .

Owing to its bestselling companion book and soundtrack album using the title, Cosmos, the series is widely known by this title, with the subtitle omitted from home video packaging. His book Cosmos (accompanying his Emmy- and Peabody Award-winning television series of the same name) was the bestselling science book ever published in the English language, and his bestselling novel, Contact, was turned into a major motion picture. I legit feel smarter for having listened to Cosmos, and I'll also never be able to forget why medieval Catholic monks first domesticated rabbits (hint: it wasn't because they were cute). Shortly after release, Cosmos became the best-selling science book ever published in the English language, [10] [11] [12] [13] and was the first science book to sell more than half a million copies. The American astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson described " Cosmos" as something "more than Carl Sagan". He also discusses the underlying premises of science by providing biographical anecdotes about many prominent scientists, placing their contributions in the broader context of the development of modern science. A story told with Carl Sagan's remarkable ability to make scientific ideas both comprehensible and exciting. The book Cosmos I recomend it to all you, who love to read books of Astronomy and themes which envolve about it. Science historian Bruce Lewenstein of Cornell University noted that among science books " Cosmos marked the moment that something different was clearly going on. So, I thank you very much for this moment (Commentars), in which I can express my gratitull to everybody have been part of my interection this year (2022). To quote the first line of the first chapter: "The cosmos is all that ever is or ever was or ever will be.The narration by LeVar Burton is possibly the second best I've heard in an audiobook so far (just behind Peter Kenny) and the final two chapters are very thought provoking and really make me reconsider a lot of what I thought it was to be a member of this planet.

The series was first broadcast by the Public Broadcasting Service in 1980, and was the most widely watched series in the history of American public television until The Civil War (1990).Sagan discusses comets and asteroids as planetary impactors, giving recent examples of the Tunguska event and a lunar impact described by Canterbury monks in 1178. The program's format is similar to earlier BBC documentaries such as Kenneth Clark's Civilisation, Jacob Bronowski's The Ascent of Man, and David Attenborough's Life on Earth.
