About this deal

incident reminiscent of the time my friend Cath and I decided to simultaneously reread Savages as proper grown ups, I have spent a fair proportion of my snowed in (again! Razor-sharp plot twists, a cast of ruthless antiheroes, and of course, Winslow's superb, adrenaline-fueled prose make this scorching, drug-infused thriller an addictive and entertaining read. I have to say though that I was a bit disappointed with the ending - I like things to be neatly finished off and this left some things unanswered in my mind ! They all suck, and I have no sympathy for anybody who is stupid enough to use them to the point of addiction. I definitely need to get my hands on more of his material and soon; he's that damn good (forgive me, I appear to be thinking out loud).

I really, really highly recommend both The Savages and American Savage, whether you’re more of a contemporary fan or a fan of the macabre.Interesting and suspense-filled throughout the book, once the author gets you introduced to all of the characters and their marriages, lives, personalities, quirks. Riddled with bullets and splattered with blood, Savages is not for the squeamish, but it's a must for Winslow fans.

Part-time environmentalist and philanthropist Ben and his ex-mercenary buddy Chon run a Laguna Beach-based marijuana operation, reaping significant profits from their loyal clientele. Conrad and Jilly Cooper were never on my reading list but I had my fair share of non literary stuff in the shape of Dennis Wheatley. I've never heard of him before reviews started popping up on Good Reads declaring this novel an instant-classic.Loved this book - it was really captivating - although it took a couple of chapters to get to know all of the different characters they really do come to life later in the storyline. It turned out to be a fairly minor quibble, but it did have an impact on my enjoyment of the book, and I think on the overall storytelling. Elegantly structured in “seven fragments”, Watling’s book gives us a riveting drama that begins as pastoral comedy and ends as tragedy.

All I could remember was that a group of women were stranded in the jungles of an island and had to learn to survive.Attention to detail and descriptive writing made this book like an amazing survivor's manual--I think TV made this book into a mini-series at some point in the past. It is a tirade on Republicans (you can guess who), however, don’t let that turn you off if you’re on that side of the aisle. Razor-sharp plot twists, a cast of ruthless antiheroes, and of course, Winslow’s superb, adrenaline-fueled prose make this scorching, drug-infused thriller an addictive and entertaining read. She’d chosen cream rather than white because, unless it was cotton and could be washed, white was always a dry-cleaning headache. He succeeds beautifully in spinning a bare-knuckled, blistered-pace drama of crime, suspense, and passion that explodes in a climax fitting of the carnage and emotion that precedes it.
