About this deal

He definitely carries the freak flag for natural childbirth and that may turn some people off, however he provides lots of good information on when drugs and cesareans are probably a good idea. Birth is the kind of book that should be on the shelves of every obstetrician and gynecologist in a country where giving birth is as dangerous as it has ever been. In 2012 she set up The Positive Birth Movement (PBM), a global network of antenatal discussion groups, with the aim of improving childbirth and giving women better access to support and information, not anticipating the huge appetite among women for more positive messages about birth. I appreciate the "my choice" method mentioned in the first chapter, but I couldn't not get into the book.

I hope to be better prepared to help laboring women to find the positions that will work the best for them. I prefer Birthing From Within's approach to recognizing the painful experience that birthing is and having that be okay. His explanation of the different positions to labor and give birth in (and not to) was also simple and easy to follow. You'll find plenty of real stories and guidance throughout from mothers and experts in supporting breastfeeding. It’s rare for Big Book Little book to feature a non-fiction book, even more so to feature a pregnancy book.

What better way to be prepared than to have all the information in an entertaining and easy to read book. Whether it’s your first, second or fifth baby, most of us approach childbirth with some trepidation.

Other than that, like I said, it's a very informative read, written from a unique perspective (the married authors are a MD-RN team who have had many of their children at home). This book talks about traumatic births and came about as a result of Sheila's experiences listening to women with birth trauma. Sears is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and a fellow of the Royal College of Pediatricians (RCP). Full of information, realistic and not sentimental, The Happy Birth Book will help you work towards a good birth. Most books are either written to talk you into a natural birth or else only talk about general hospital policies never mentioning other options.Fully revised and updated, this new edition will help you work out what kind of birth you really want, and learn how to maximise your chances of getting it. It helps normalise some of the experiences of new parents in a way that is both reassuring but also gives you ideas of when you might want some extra support (and where from). In remarkable detail and with great compassion, Grant recounts the ups downs, fears, joys, and everyday moments of each woman’s pregnancy and postpartum journey, offering a rare look into their inner lives, perspectives, and choices in real time—and addresses larger issues facing the entire nation, from discrimination in medicine and treatment (both gender and race-based) to fertility, family planning, complicated feelings about motherhood and career, and the stigmas of miscarriage and postpartum blues. I had a long, difficult labor with my first child and I scoffed at the amount of time Martha Sears spent huffing and puffing.
