About this deal

Nitpicks aside, “Azula in the Spirit Temple” is still a great one-off story to explore Azula’s character and whether or not she deserves or needs forgiveness and redemption. Azula watches with wide eyes as Zuko becomes more and more monstrous, resembling the monk spirit's half-human form.

Therefore, I can only conclude that Azula’s love life does not matter since the franchise doesn’t think it matters.

The art style often is not appealing to me, and the writing by Faith Erin Hicks has the tendency to become really stilted and un-natural: flat new side-characters overshadow the main stars, canon characters don't act like they used to, and at points, the dialogue sounds more like an essay tract, where the author unsubtly reveals their own thoughts about the narrative. I expect that nothing major happen in this little short story as she is too much of a great important character that has so much potential for the future movies. You weren't there to protect me from dad, so I became what he wanted--his deadly firebending weapon. One of the Fire Warriors, Chiyou, attacks the guards and sends a fire blast at Ty Lee, who dodges it and chi blocks Chiyou. The writing in "Azula in the Spirit Temple" is pretty dope for its authenticity, as it maintains Azula's character without overly explaining her motivations. By the end of the story, she still has too much pride to admit to any wrongdoing, but her actions imply she understands it on a subconscious level. She falls for a trap set up by Ty Lee, nearly gets captured and loses one of her henchmen, and when she decides to leave said henchgirl behind the rest of her servants abandon her. Azula wakes up and stretches, combs her hair with a smile, and exits the tent after getting ready for the day. While former princess Azula has countless egregious sins to atone for, the world of Avatar is rife with redemption, like Fire Lord Zuko himself. But after a failed attack on her latest target, Azula finds herself in a mysterious forest temple inhabited by a solitary monk… or is it something more mysterious?

For fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender, Azula is one of the most charismatic and compelling villains of all time, and a solo installment of Dark Horse Comics’ graphic novel continuations has been well overdue. Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: One of Azula's visions has Iroh, Zuko, and Ursa praising her for conquering Ba Sing Se, killing the Avatar and thereby ending the war, and becoming Fire Lord, respectively. Azula and Ty Lee could fall in love, but the franchise decided to make Ty Lee hate Azula’s guts and Azula not have anything to say about it.Like that we were actually friends, despite you threatening my life to force me to join your Avatar hunt.
