About this deal

With two opposing goddesses playing mortals and vampires like chess pieces against one another, Isolde is uncertain who her allies are in the vampire stronghold of Revekka. Besides that, I might be inclined to review poorly some of the characters, and I think it is faire to them to speak at the end, when the story is over… for now. If you seek a story that will transport you to a realm of mythology, where love knows no bounds and heroes and heroines rise to meet their destinies, then the Hades X Persephone Series is a must-read. It doesn’t help that Demeter is furious at her daughter for being involved with Hades and is taking it out on the world by plunging them into severe winter weather in the middle of summer.

I’ve always been a voracious reader since I was little, but as I grew older, my parents encouraged me to start branching out into adult books more and more. The books beginning with “A Game of…” are books told from Hade’s point of view and are considered part of the Hades Saga. I absolutely recommend this to any greek mythology fans and especially fans of the web comic Lore Olympus. This book was steamy and binge-worthy and I was absolutely hooked the moment I started listening to it (although the narrator was much more bearable once I got it on 1.Other than that, the dynamic of Hades and Persephone changed and our heroine stepped out of the dark and became to embrace her divinity and take action.

In the last, maybe 2 chapters did I begin to actually warm to Persephone, but I don’t think she actually learned from any of her mistakes? Unveil five captivating books, each weaving tales of passion and destiny, immersing you in mythical realms and forbidden desires. Hades and Hecate are such a fun duo, and any scene that had them in it were always super enjoyable to read. And the thing is, the reader can see this from the first encounter between Persephone and Hades, but it still takes Persephone, like, the WHOLE DAMN BOOK to get with the program. So many mistakes and communication problems were hard to digest and because of this, it completely ruin the plot for me. There are three main storylines happening in tandem during this instalment in the series; Zeus deciding whether to agree to let Hades and Persephone get married, Demeter plunging New Greece into a dangerous snow storm, and the ongoing threat of Triad and the Demigods who are getting restless over what they think is the Greek gods tyrannical rule. Leslie graduated magna cum laude from Davidson College where she honed her writing skills and also holds two Master's degrees. Persephone is the daughter of Demeter, but none of the other gods know who she is or that she is a goddess.

Hades refuses to allow anything to stop him from securing Persephone as his bride, but he must play a deep strategic game with the Gods of Olympus to safeguard their future. I listened to the audiobook, which I wouldn’t necessarily recommend because I didn’t really vibe with the narrator, but the story definitely has its merits! One of the best things about having a whole book from Hades point of view, is for his inner thoughts on his progressing relationship with Persephone, and a new insight into the world of the gods that we don’t get with Persephone. I started listening to this because I read Lore Olympus on WebToon and people on the group I’m in were suggesting this. It was unbearable and I struggled soooo much with Persephone, it almost made me not finish the books. Whether it’s due to the fact that I sped it up, or if she was just better this time I’m not sure, but if you decide to listen to the audiobook, definitely speed it up! There is only roughly a year between publishing dates for these two books, and most of A Touch of Darkness is reused in A Game of Fate.

I would've liked to have heard more character development or backstory, but I suppose that's due in Scarlett's following novels. I haven’t read some of these yet, but I can only assume it would be helpful to come into them with a bit of a basis for the original stories and texts, so maybe hit these types of books once you’re nice and familiar with the core gods, goddesses, myths and monsters of Greek mythology. They’re definitely easier to read than something like Shakespeare, and many editions now give you fantastic commentary and background info on the plays!
