Cliff the 32 and 40 pipe I have here in Italy does not fit the double ended female fittings I have bought. The key thing is that you cannot mix solvent and push fit pipe as the pipe itself is different which is why the push fit is slightly smaller (edited) (so it does not fit).

And now I've looked at the 40mm I find that inside the bags labelled 40mm are fittings labelled 43mm - so that's it then - all designed to screw up DIYers! Still have not had the chance to ask Screwfix whether they might consider that selling 32 and 40 but supplying 36 and 43 without mentioning it, is a good reason to give me a refund - albeit its a marginal thing whether posting them back is worth it. This fitting has a physical pipe fitting size of 36mm and requires Solvent Weld Glue for installation. In addition to a full selection of connectors required to create an operational system, both flexible and static versions are on offer. If it needs adjusting you can always heat the pipe and form a socket to fit the existing, heat gun is good. Your existing pipes might be solvent weld, which is not compatible with push fit at all, as the pipe is larger and made from ABS rather than polypropylene.
