About this deal

It doubles up as a useful how-to guide and instruction manual for wild camping whilst also delivering a series of interesting segments on everything related to bushcraft.

Once you have a basic kit sorted, the second half the book launches into a basic overview of wilderness skills including, camp craft, fire lighting and navigation. It covers all the basics from making shelter and starting a fire to catching game and finding medicinal plants. Based on the 5Cs of Survivability: cutting tools, covering, combustion devices, containers, and cordages. Dennoch würde es in einem Grundlagenwerk nicht schaden, kurz mal zu erwähnen, was das überhaupt ist.The descriptions mostly served to confuse me -- I feel these would be better learned by watching a demonstration or video. It definitely is a field guide, as the title states, since it doesn't go into too much detail, but gives you the basics. Bushcraft 101 gets you ready for your next backcountry trip with advice on making the most of your time outdoors. Das ist aber tatsächlich mehr meine Ansicht und ich kann verstehen, wieso dieser Inhalt in diesem Buch ist.

It wasn’t a particularly long section and I didn’t mind learning a bit about the early days of bushcraft survival.VERDICT Someone much smarter than I summed this up perfectly: For all your dried acorn and fried squirrel needs. Would probably need to read again and, as the author recommended, apply in real-life scenarios to truly get the most out of it. I have been learning about bushcraft for a few years but I have yet to make my own shelter, and I'm also not particularly interested in hunting or fishing, so it was a good book to solidify some of my knowledge, but I think Canterbury overestimated what someone just getting into bushcraft needs and wants from a 101 guide.

This then becomes the foundation for a minimalist kit to survive and sustain yourself in the woodlands for short stays, with plenty of recommendations for equipment to fulfil these roles. A castor mound set for trapping beaver is perhaps a bit outside of the scope of what this book needed to be.I think that more illustrations in the trapping and dressing game would be appreciated to further understanding. With Canterbury's guidance, you will not only prepare yourself for any climate and situation, you will also learn how to use the art of bushcraft to reconnect with nature in ways you have never imagined. I had picked a handful of tutors from various countries who had been mostly concentrated on different areas of backcountry life. Despite the author’s protest that you can weight the springs differently or use a variety of baits to target specific animals – I wasn’t sold. This book's main premise is to provide the beginner with basic, essential, and introductory information and skills to take advantage of what nature makes available, using minimal gear, to survive and thrive in the natural world.

Bushcrafting is one of the cornerstones of preparedness and survivability that can be life-sustaining in both normal situations as a hobby or lifestyle, as well as for those emergency situations outside of our control. It based on Canterbury's Five C's of Survivability - Cutting Tools, Covering Elements, Combustion devices, containers and cordage. BUT he has great survival skills and great techniques that I have retained and will use in my future. With that being said, there were some sections that were a bit too much for me to follow -- primarily the knots and lashings etc.

While others will pack in a wide variety of modern camping equipment such as nylon tarps and hammocks, synthetic sleeping bags and lightweight pots and use bushcraft skills to make their stay more interesting or comfortable. The reason I really like it is because it is full of things that we can try out during out camping trip next month. Ganz nett, allerdings werde ich nicht in der Wildnis dieses Buch aus der Tasche ziehen, um nachzugucken, wie ich aus einer Schnappschildkröte eine Mahlzeit zubereite. I believe that I now have a grasp of some of the basics and have increased my chances of living off of the natural resources of the wilderness. Based on the 5Cs of Survivability, cutting tools, covering, combustion devices, containers, and cordages.
