About this deal

Being in love is an elaborate state of anticipation for the continual exchanging of certain kinds of gifts. The gifts can range from a glance to the offering of the entire self. But the gifts must be gifts: they cannot be claimed. One has no rights as a lover – except the right to anticipate what the other wishes to give. G. is no looker, he is short and somewhat squat, walks with his head forward like a bull, has an almost permanent leer and has a mouth with several broken and missing teeth and yet in his presence women's bloomer elastic pings, and it is because like the anecdotes he makes them feel seen. He tells them he loves them as they are, that he sees them and accepts what he sees, that he offers them himself openly and without deception. People have commented on his only sleeping with married women, and while this is true I think it says less about his desire to wreak havoc than the women's desire to be seen as individuals again, it is only during sex they can be free and authentically themselves (it is set at the early part of the last century). The ending was sweet however it was never really explained how it’s rare for fae people and humans to have children. Having only this being my 2nd book that’s based off fae (didn’t know if this was universal logic?) so it would have been cool to have a small section going into why it’s so rare and left wondering.

Il mio interesse per lei è appena inferiore a quello che provo per G. , scrive John Berger a pagina 186. At its briefest, the moment of total desire lasts as long as the moment of orgasm. It lasts longer when passion increases and extends desire. Yet, even at its briefest, the experience should not be treated as only a physical/nervous reflex. The stuff of imagination (memory, language, dreams) is being deployed. Because the other who is palpable and unique between one's arms is--at least for a few instants--exclusively desired, she or he represents, without qualification or discrimination, life itself. The experience = I + life.Visit ServiceOntario Bay and College (Toronto) or a DriveTest centre Learning to drive: graduated licensing An unusual read and very post modern. G as a character is at times brilliant and mad. Born to a wealthy American woman who was the mistress of a Livorno candied merchant. She immediately abandons the child to her cousins in the English countryside where G is introduced to sex by Beatrice his cousin. At a given moment sexual desire becomes inextinguishable. The threat of death itself will be ignored. What is desired is now exclusively desired; it is not possible to desire anything else. The Book of G was just the book I needed yesterday. It has an overall lighter and funnier feel, but with flashes of deeper feelings and heart. It does have a more modern feel to it language-wise, even though this is sort of a historical fantasy, but this didn't bother me personally. There are mysteries and secrets and I'm not going to spoil anything.

I liked it, and I liked it a lot. It’s unashamedly postmodern, but it’s picaresque which makes it a reading experience somewhat different to other postmodern books I have read. G and Charlie had so much hilarious (and sexy) banter throughout that kept me more than entertained, and really had me anticipating and enjoying their intimate moments all the more. While Charlie has a big heart she also has a big stubborn streak, so she’s more than up to the challenge of verbally sparring with him!

Didn't feel any magic but i attribute that to me being in a lowkey reading slump and the fact i started this on a heels of a dnf that really pissed me off. So i hope to reread this sometime and feel the magic that i think it has the potential to give me.
