About this deal

As with all truly great children's books it's one that adults will enjoy sharing too, potentially prompting grown-ups to share their own family's history and involvement with the World Wars with their children, thus preserving those stories for another generation. Could his incredible story of bravery help her reconnect with her gran and even give her the inspiration she needs to push through and win? I would recommend this book to anyone that likes stories with other stories hidden in them and also people that like emotional stories.

I found Lilly’s grandmother the most interesting because she had experienced so much during her life and was very knowledgeable throughout the book. But she reconnects with her Gran when she finds her great great grandfather's diaries who also was a runner. Yet the author did include very lovable characters such as Gran who adds emotion to the book through her struggle with Alzheimer’s and Grandad, who is supportive and loves his wife dearly. You guys were so fab and Dawn was such a lovely presence in the schools - I will absolutely be in touch next time I'm in your neck of the woods. Draw a landscape to colour in for the Armistice Runner characters here: Lily (running today) and Ernest (a trench runner in the First World War) here.

Lily is fighting her own battles - Abbie, her rival, always seems to beat her, and her beloved Grandma has Alzheimer's. Can his bravery inspire Lily in her racing and help her reconnect with her grandma and the rest of her family?

But as we can see in this story, it doesn’t mean that you have to disconnect from that person but learn how to reconnect with them on a different level.Lily goes to visit her grandparents and is introduced to Ernest, her great great grandfather through his war diaries. Choose from Termly resources news for Teachers and Librarians or Holiday reading news for Young Readers and their families. But Lily discovers they are not running logs but a diary of his time in the trenches during WWI as a runner – someone who would be trusted to take messages between stations on the frontline. The book is really interesting as it shows light can come from dark, no matter who you are or where you come from you can be friends with anybody and that you can achieve anything if you really put your mind to it.
