About this deal

To further mark World Book Day and support children’s literacy, McDonald’s restaurants in Bradford, Coventry, Derby, Dundee, and Swindon will be unveiling immersive Story Corners for one week. McDonald’s worked with independent charity, the National Literacy Trust to identify the regional areas with low literacy levels. That’s why with its new Story Corners located in these specific areas, McDonald’s wants to inspire local kids to get involved in World Book Day by providing them with the space and tools to enjoy reading. Today marks the annual event of World Book Day, on which literature is celebrated and reading promoted across all age groups and genres. Over the years, there have been some terrific Chelsea books published, lifting the lid on life behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge and providing a unique player insight into the world of a professional footballer.

World Book Day’s aim is for the books we present to be for all children and families, and particularly to offer a gateway into reading for those who don’t currently see themselves as readers.Since it was first celebrated in the UK and Ireland over 25 years ago, the day has grown to become an essential calendar fixture for schools, settings and communities. It provides a fantastic opportunity to focus on reading for pleasure, supporting children's autonomy in book choice, and embedding a habit of reading that brings a wide range of benefits. That’s why World Book Day continues to encourage children and young people to read for pleasure through its work with authors, illustrators, publishers, bookshops and libraries."

Armistice Runner is a wonderful story to use in the classroom to explore the history of World War 1. The narrative is compelling and perfectly pitched to bring the big themes of war to young readers without being either too frightening or too reductive. By linking the historical aspect of the story to a modern day character in a familiar setting and emphasising the relatable, human aspects of one soldier’s experiences, Tom has skilfully crafted a way for young readers to connect with an event that could too easily seem a world away from them.” BOOK FOR TOPICS 2.11 Armistice Runner facts … ALICE HART-DAVIS: CrossFit, Reformer Pilates... even her kneecaps are lovely! Princess Kate shows a flash of leg as she gets out of her car. But WHAT a leg!
