About this deal

To see how well the iRobot Roomba i7+ can clean, I put it through Trusted’s standard set of tests. First, I sprinkled an ‘X’ of flour onto my test carpet. Although the i7+ moved over the area properly, it wasn’t powerful enough to pull up all of the mess. As you can see from the pictures below, the robot cleared the top-level dirt, but couldn’t pull out the final traces of flour that were deeper in the carpet pile. In terms of noise I measured the iRobot Roomba i7+ at 65.1dB, which is about average for robot vacuum cleaners. It’s loud, but not to a level that it’s distracting. This model includes a 0.4-litre bin, which is a fairly standard size as far as robot vacuum cleaners go, and it pulls out from the rear of the unit. Not that you’ll need to empty it manually – this model ships with the Clean Base charging station, which automatically empties your robot’s bin at the end of cleaning.

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is an impressive choice from iRobot’s line of robot vacuums. Roomba was already enough for us to leave sweeping and vacuuming ourselves in the dust, but now it’s practically irresistible. Once you have the rooms sorted, you can get the robot to clean just a specific room or your entire house. The same goes for scheduling, so you can clean different parts of your home at different times. But the Roomba i7 came out with flying colours and removed a whopping 94% of the sand on the laminate. You can still have a conversation in the same room - while the robot vacuum is doing its work - but it’s not that pleasant. The same applies to watching TV in the same room.Roomba i7+ is suitable for pet owners because pet hair can’t wrap itself around the rubber brushes. The Roomba i7 Plus doesn’t have an automatic carpet detection function. Thus, it also doesn’t increase the suction power automatically when it drives on a carpet.

While the Clean Base doesn’t take up any more floor space than a regular charger, it’s significantly higher and won’t fit under furniture, so you need to place it somewhere out in the open. Although the vacuum cleaner has controls on top of it to set it off, it’s best engaged through the app once you’ve connected the robot to your Wi-Fi network. Before you can use the full power of the app, you need the robot to create a map of your home. However, it’s quite expensive: with the Clean Base, the RRP is similar to that of the Dyson 360 Heurist, which proved to be more powerful in tests. You’ll have to decide if the convenience of automatic emptying is worth the money, compared to a robot that cleans deeper. Once your Roomba i7+ has uploaded detailed maps of your room layouts, it will assume a much more efficient cleaning pattern of pacing across each room in as straight of lines as possible. iRobot calls this ‘Imprint Smart Mapping,’ and claims that this new method will save both energy and time. In the "Maintenance" section, you can see when you have to replace individual spare parts (brushes, HEPA filters, etc.).

PS: We reveal which robotic vacuum cleaner can climb best in our article " Robot vacuums for high doorsteps in comparison". The robotic vacuum cleaner hardly reached its limits with the lentils ( short carpet: 94%, long carpet 98%). Cleaning crumbs is now as easy as “Roomba, clean under the kitchen table”. This intuitive experience only from iRobot means that a request to your voice assistant* or via the iRobot Home App enables the Roomba® i7/i7+ Robot Vacuum to clean up mess for you, right when it happens – immediately clean that spot and consider it done. If you’ve got a smart speaker, you’ll be able to give the iRobot Roomba i7+ instructions and set it to work without having to lift a finger. The i7+ isn’t cheap but for the price, you also get a base that doubles up as a trash bin included with the vacuum.

Send the robot vacuum cleaner on its first cleaning job at the touch of a button in the app - it’ll do the rest. However, the iRobot Roomba i7 obviously can’t achieve a perfect result in corners because of its round shape. One thing’s for sure: iRobot devices in general - and the iRobot Roomba i7+ in particular - are high-priced luxury products. Each bag can hold 30 bin-fulls of dirt, so you’re looking at replacing a bag every couple of months or so, depending on how often you use your robot. The Roomba i7+ looks an awful lot like its predecessors at first glance, but contains so many more differences once you flip the machine upside-down. Before getting into that, one thing about the vacuum’s shell that’s markedly different here is that the LED now blinks and shines different colors depending on its current state.

The battery is designed to last for 120 minutes of cleaning. In my tests, I had enough power to clean my entire downstairs and set off a second run. The delivery scope doesn’t just include the iRobot Roomba i7+ Robot Vacuum and the relatively large and very cool clean base. iRobot also added several accessories. The device has an excellent finish and looks very classy. The materials used seem to be of very high-quality.A few hairs get caught in the side brush from time to time. You can easily remove them with scissors.
