This is a wonderful concept book that not only helps teach children about shapes but also the world around them. A simple counting story from 1 – 10 that is written in the style of a Caribbean dialect, with stunning illustrations that will quickly grab the attention of young readers. Break out the square pieces of paper and art supplies because students will be inspired to do something with their own squares too. I loved Jordan Ellenberg's earlier book, How Not to Be Wrong: The Power of Mathematical Thinking, and it was a hard act to follow. This is a wordless book that includes vivid photographs on each page of different items seen in a variety of settings (including international and urban contexts). The next to last chapter is a VERY deep dive into gerrymandering, which I have been very interested in (living through it in North Carolina, so happy that our STATE supreme court threw out the districting - SO DISAPPOINTED IN OUR RIDICULOUS FEDERAL SUPREME COURT). While learning about counting and colours, very young children will delight in the adorable kittens on every spread and the simple text that is perfect for reading aloud. As far as I am concerned, NHM allows you to be the driver, but gives you plenty of back-up, so that you can use it exactly as you want. Flexible and practical, New Heinemann Maths materials offer you a flexible course that is matched to the CIPP curriculum and is ideal for the international classroom.

This type of triangle follows the Pythagorean theorem, which states that the square of the length of the hypotenuse (the side opposite the right angle) is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides. These creative hands-on activities support Early Years and Key Stage One maths curriculums taught in schools. This brilliant book is a playful mashup of pictures, poetry, and spatial relationships, all wrapped up in vibrant colors and shapes.

The beguiling second entry in the innovative shape trilogy by multi-award-winning, New York Times best-selling duo Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen.

A supportive resource for teachers with all levels of experience, with step-by-step teaching guidance. Another book about shape friends is Friendshape by Amy Krause Rosenthall emphasizing the importance of having friends in our lives. would be a fantastic introduction to a Space topic, and asking children to estimate the correct answer before opening the page would add a great element of competition (in case you’re wondering, it’s 1,400,000 but you would have to reduce them to rubble and goo first). Filled with cheerful colors, rhyming text, amusing illustrations, and an action-packed storyline, this book is perfect for introducing shapes to children. The book of shapes worksheets are black and white, for those of you who do not have access to color printing. My rating is 3 of 5 because the absence of language might confuse the readers about what to look for. And the the book walks randomly over a bunch of material, staying too long on some parts, and not long enough on others. Cuboid: Also known as a rectangular prism, it has six rectangular faces, 12 edges, and eight vertices. I used to dread the afternoon, after naps, as it was so boring doing the same thing day after day but now I look forward to our "play" time! It also activates their prior knowledge because they see many of the objects in the book at their home and even outside. The Shapes Trilogy Series Jon Klassen and Mac Barnett These books are about Square, Triangle, and Circle, three friends with their own ways of looking at things. A basic drawing of a house, with two lines for the roof, a line for each side, and a line for the bottom is generally a pentagon.
