About this deal

Natural lubricants are becoming a huge market as people are more aware of potentially scary ingredients in other products. The Natural Love Company has created a cruelty-free, vegan version that is made without additives or synthetic chemicals. This makes it a great choice for anyone struggling with allergies or sensitive skin. It’s easy to make! Just mix up a solution that’s 90% vegetable oil and 10% acetone, and squirt it wherever necessary. Be careful when mixing, as acetone is flammable, and will melt many plastic containers. If possible, use a glass or metal container to mix it, or buy an oil can to make things even easier. Also, be sure to shake the mixture before each use, as acetone and vegetable oil tend to separate over time. However, it is important to note that it is not safe to use with most condoms as it breaks down the latex.

Oils are thin liquids made of long polymer chains, with additives for various extra properties. Common additives include antioxidants to keep the oil from oxidizing, corrosion inhibitors to prevent parts from corroding, and detergents to keep deposits from forming. These long chains are hard to squeeze out from between surfaces, making oils useful as a slippery barrier between them. Oils come in different “weights” (such as 5W or 10W), which correspond to viscosity. The lower the number, the thinner the oil, and the more easily it will flow. We would always advise keeping your bike as clean as possible, and topping up the chain lube after a wet ride will at least prevent corrosion. Our White Grease Lubricant is proudly made in the UK, adhering to strict quality standards. By choosing a product manufactured in the UK, you can trust in its reliability, performance, and effectiveness. Silicone: Don't contain any water or oils, last longer and are less likely to cause irritation. However, they are more expensive and aren't ideal for lower-grade silicone sex toys. Vaseline. Vaseline is one of your best bets, and besides olive/coconut oil, it’s something a lot of people would consider anyways for homemade lube. The good news is, it’s just as safe and effective as you’re thinking it would be.Brown, J., et al. (2013). Intravaginal practices and risk of bacterial vaginosis and candidiasis infection among a cohort of women in the United States [Abstract]. According to ZFC, the difference between a good and bad lubricant can comfortably amount to five to ten watts at a 250-watt load. These losses increase in magnitude as the load increases, too. If you’ve gotten into using essential oils in your daily life, you probably understand the term “carrier oils”. These are oils that you use as a base, to transfer something else–such as essential oils, and to make it easier for your body to naturally absorb what is transferred. Vitamin E is a carrier oil that you might happen to have around, and it’s definitely worthwhile to give it a try as a lube. As with any type of oil, you shouldn’t use this if you’re using condoms. Almond Oil Chow, E. P. F., et al. (2016). Saliva use as a lubricant for anal sex is a risk factor for rectal gonorrhoea among men who have sex with men, a new public health message: A cross-sectional survey.

Wet lubes are designed for riding in wet or year-round conditions and, as such, generally contain greater quantities of higher viscosity synthetic oils, as well as additives such as PTFE. APT have several lubricants for use on metal components and we have split them up below to provide some further context on which may be easier for the job at hand: Unless you’re using condoms, natural oils are generally great, and are used for massage all over the body because rubbing oil feels really good. Oil-based products also last a lot longer than lubricants that are water-based. This is especially true if the oil you’re using is organic. There’s a whole world out there of personal lubricants that come in any texture, taste, and sensation you could think of. With the wide variety of options, it can be difficult to know which lube is the right one for your body, and which products to get. https://journals.lww.com/stdjournal/Fulltext/2016/07000/Lubricant_Use_and_Rectal_Chlamydial_and_Gonococcal.5.aspx

Best chain lube for mountain, gravel and cyclocross bikes

Because highly refined paraffin wax contains practically no oil, waxed chains are prone to rusting after wet rides. You’ll have to be prepared to dry, clean and re-wax the chain, or top it up with a wax-based drip lube, as soon as possible after riding. If you’re interested in something more long lasting that needs to be reapplied less often, you may have found your match.

Unsurprisingly, there are a large number of flavoured lubes out there which can make giving head a little more delicious. These vary in flavour, going everywhere from fruity to sweet to minty, and tend to be mainly water-based given that consuming silicone isn't exactly super-healthy. They generally don’t come cheap and will need to be re-waxed or topped up with wax lubricant after 300 to 400km of dry riding, but it certainly saves on the initial hassle of stripping factory grease from new chains at home. What about grease?

If you’re thinking, “That sounds like quite a lot of hassle…”, you wouldn’t be wrong. It is, at least initially. For wet conditions, the winner is slightly less clear cut, but we’d still recommend waxed-based lubricants for their efficiency. Crucially, however, you’ll have to be prepared to clean your chain immediately after wet rides to prevent corrosion. Chances are that you have a bottle of aloe vera that’s been sitting for months by your bedside, or you’re keeping it in the closet for the summertime, so you can soothe your bad sunburns. Most everybody has some aloe vera somewhere around, and did you know that it has a lot of other uses besides alleviating redness and providing a cooling sensation? In short, we would not recommend using petroleum jelly lubricant to penetrate metal as it is not strong enough. Industrial lubricants manufactured and supplied by APT are made up of a unique blend of mineral oils, dewatering agents, anti-corrosion, anti-wear and rust preventing compounds that have been combined with solvents and high di-electrical strength.
