About this deal

So I've just installed a Twinstar 1200s 3 days ago. And its nice having the ability to ramp up and ramp down the intensity of it. For strongalgae growth it is recommended tomaintain a minimum Nitrate level of 3-5 ppm and phosphate level of 0.01 ppm, as otherwisean optimum macroalgae growth may not be possible. It is not a kit I've used, but if it goes red? It probably uses this method In which case one of the bottles will be an acetate buffer (sodium or ammonium acetate?) and the other hydroxylamine.

per 10 litres of tank water 3x per week will give a dose similar to the Estimative Index levels – Be sure to change 50% of your water once per week to remove organic waste from the plants. For me, it's pretty simple i use a calculator to find the correct amounts of dry salts to reach the proper PPM value. Then i have a 0.01 pharmacy (jewellers) weight scale and a scoop. I use these as a guideline as it is lower nitrogen than full EI and that means I can clean my glass less often. Remember if you start by just dosing a little bit, you'll probably reach the ideal levels or higher for most of the elements. Try to dose the minimum to get to the ideal level of your most depleted nutrient (for me potassium).

I'm not usually an advocate of test kits, but in the case of iron (Fe) it is quite easy to get an accurate reading for your tank water, mainly because nearly all iron compounds are both coloured and insoluble. I have a plan in mind in regards to the light and adding ferts. Can I get your guys thoughts on it. I will be ferting TNC complete I’m minded to go with people’s advice and try upping to 2ml per day and see what happens. I read somewhere (it may have been one of Clive’s posts) that a phosphate shortage can interfere with nitrate uptake, so it seems worth a try to increase everything.

Amazing place!

All macroalgaewill be well protected when posted to youto ensure that it will arrive in the best condition at yours.

I have 7 ember tetras, 3 pygmy cories and 2 Amano shrimp. And an unknown number of Asellus aquaticus (thanks for the ID, Darrell!), probably hitch-hikers from some hornwort I transferred from the pond. This will be “it” for at least a while, although a small colony of cherries is a possibility once the tank is a bit more mature. To make some plants redder you can eg reduce NO3 levels which initiates a NO3 deficiency which makes some plants redder- but it doesn't mean they are healthier. I’m pretty sure my CO₂ is okay, and I have repositioned my spray bar to give good distribution - the bubbles from the Twinstar M3 can now be seen sliding down the front glass. (Being able to visualise the water flow has been a major plus of having that device, and prompted me to improve my flow).

I’m beginning to point the finger at fertilisation. I’ve been dosing TNC Complete, using the 3x dosage which supposedly approximates EI. But I’ve just done some sums, and I’m not sure it does. I've have used and still use TNC and APT and both are good fertilisers. When I used TNC in a high energy tank however, I found I was using a lot more of it in comparison to APT so it was debatable how much money was actually being saved. For example, like @The grumpy one said, I was dosing several ml on a 5 gallon tank (can't remember the exact figure), but when I switched over to APT, I was dosing less than 1ml for the same results. If your water is very soft? You probably will have some /www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/preload-dosing.58368/#post-570256']plant available iron[/URL]"> and your plants don't appear to show any iron deficiency symptoms. If you test the potassium and iron coming out of the tap and in your tank at different points in the day, it should give you a rough idea of how much fertiliser you need to add. Nitrate testing is quite hard to do, so see if your water company has any info, or if you want to you could buy a more accurate test kit (I haven't done this) https://www.aquasabi.com/Macherey-Nagel-Visocolor-ECO-Nitrate-Test-kitI have been unimpressed with the plant growth in my 20 litre tank since it was planted about 4 or 5 weeks ago. Plants seem to be surviving, but not thriving. My light is generous, and I have no significant algae. Anyway, if you determine the compound (N,P,K, Fe, Mg) that's lowest in your water- it may well be potassium, then dose the amount you need to get to a good level of potassium for a few hours each day (it will go as/ if the plants use it) . TNC Complete includes 0.0002% Copper, which is 20 times more than in Seachem Flourish, whilst Brightwell's ChaetoGro does not include any Copper.
