About this deal

Each room features geometric carpeting, a candy-striped headboard and a canary-yellow armchair and pouf created bespoke by Hall. Artist and designer Luke Edward Hall, based in London, has taken the design world by storm with his playful, nostalgic, charming, and sophisticated interiors, fabrics, ceramics, furniture, stationery, prints, drawings, and paintings. With a strong belief that his artwork, décor, and interior design convey “happiness and optimism,” whimsical and romantic themes and a bright coluor palette are purposeful hallmarks of the wunderkind’s aesthetic.

See the work of Belgian designer Gert Voorjans for inspiration. In 2016, Voorjans was invited to participate in the AD Intérieurs exhibition at La Monnaie de Paris. He created a bureau d’homme suggesting a journey from Tibet to Paris via Venice. The selection of furniture and objects symbolised each stage of the odyssey and included Venetian antiques as well as Art Deco and 18th-century French pieces. The mix is dazzling, yet no individual piece screams for attention. I really wanted this space to feel above all joyful and welcoming and alive, classic but a little bonkers at the same time," added Hall. Luke Edward Hall has added illustrations to the bedrooms' lampshades For centuries, evidence of queer love in the ancient world has either been ignored or suppressed. Even today, only a few narratives are widely known: the wild romance of Achilles and Patroclus; the yearning love of Sappho's lyrics; and the three genders introduced in Plato's Symposium . Yet there is a rich literary tradition of queer Greek and Roman love that extends far beyond the prudish translations of these familiar handful of stories. The history boys: How one couple's funky flat is bringing the past alive". TheGuardian.com. 7 April 2018. It was a drab day in January 2019 when Duncan and I began hunting for a house in the country. As we trawled the web for cottages, our new lives flashed in my head as a gleeful, Arcadian slide show: garden weeding and village dog shows (we didn’t even own a dog at this point); long walks and longer lunches with friends and brilliant new neighbours. Plus, crucially, we would have an entirely new set of rooms to fill with wonderful things. But most of all, and in a very simple way, I looked forward to spending more time with hills and trees and sky around me. It would be an adventure. In 300,000 Kisses , award-winning poet Seán Hewitt and renowned designer Luke Edward Hall collect these stories--including some of the most beautiful and moving in the classical canon--and bring them to vivid life. Alongside celebrated works by Homer, Sappho, Ovid and Catullus, they include a wide range of rarely anthologized sources: raunchy poems, thoughtful dialogues, philosophical treatises, and even a graffiti text salvaged from the ruins of Pompeii. The cafe is topped by a tortoiseshell-effect ceiling painted by local artist Pauline Leyravaud. The hotel's cafe across the road boasts a tortoiseshell-effect ceiling

A landmark illustrated anthology of queer Greek and Roman love stories that reclaim and celebrate homosexual love and sensuality, from artist Luke Edward Hall and award-winning poet Seán Hewitt.News about our Dezeen Awards China programme, including entry deadlines and announcements. Intended to feel much like a traditional Parisian eatery, the space has been finished with stripy seating banquettes and wooden bistro chairs from Thonet.

The designer has also personalised the reading lamps above the bedside tables with sketchy doodles of martini glasses, the Eiffel tower and different French words. O’Flaherty/The Guardian The late, great illustrator and collector Pierre Le-Tan’s Paris apartment springs to mind — another favourite interior — in a picture I’ve seen of his desk. Among his enchanting mix of chic and worldly objects, a toy troll stares out — one of those ones with giant googly eyes and a mound of white marshmallow hair. I’m sure this troll must have had a fascinating story to tell. I’m just glad it was able to enjoy prime place alongside Le-Tan’s Cocteau sketches and ancient classical fragments. I often sprinkle my columns with the phrase “a spritz of lime”, and in fact a citrusy squeeze may be the last thing you add to your salad. (Sorry: still on the salad metaphor.) It’s the same with a room. A harmonious mix is key, yes, but not too harmonious. I always want a dash of something extraordinarily electric.

Give me wonky lamp shades and pictures hung in a layout that doesn’t quite work, with frames squished into odd spaces. For inspiration, see the fantastic homes put together by the gardeners Julian and Isabel Bannerman, such as their former home, Trematon Castle in Cornwall. When it comes to decorating, I’m not one for rules. The interiors I appreciate the most are ones that express their owners’ tastes and interests. Plus, decorating isn’t like baking a cake: there aren’t steps to follow. Above all, decorating one’s home should be about having fun.
