About this deal
Aside from the fact that this is often easier in both time and effort, it is also less likely that the edible plants you could forage will carry a disease that can seriously threaten your life. Having been given a copy of John ‘Lofty’ Wiseman’s ‘SAS Survival Handbook’ when I was 13 years old, I spent a disproportionate amount of my mid-teens devising ingenious ways to cram more and more survival kit into a tobacco tin. It’s great if people can bring things they already have from home to personalise and adapt their kits. Iodine deals with the tougher pathogenic organisms such as giardia and cryptosporidium, whereas chlorine doesn’t.
Moreover, there really is little substitute to simply learning about the region you are in and being able to successfully forage. There are other modes of transport, however, in remote areas where more of this kit on your person would be a real asset. Still, it is important to remember that even the most complete Altoids survival tin is not designed to sustain you. easyazon_image align=”none” height=”160″ identifier=”B00Q76JX0O” locale=”UK” src=”https://ukpreppersguide.

A sewing kit with various colours of thread, a small needle, and buttons is included but in place of the larger and bigger eyed needle. easyazon_image align=”none” height=”110″ identifier=”B004G7GL42″ locale=”UK” src=”https://ukpreppersguide. The fishing kit allows you gather food, and fishing is considered the quickest and most reliable way to gather food in a survival situation. If you want to double up, you can also wrap the top of the tin in one or two layers of aluminum foil. This is where the Altoids survival tin can fall a bit short because the tin itself is simply not large enough to be able to house a true survival knife. As long as the bag is not punctured it can be used for storing water when you are without a water bottle. Lines made of multiple hooks can be made more efficient and tangle free with the odd bead or two and a swivel. A wire saw is great for cutting at tree limbs while nylon and a fishing line can greatly help to create a small shelter.

Following on from your comment about lighters; for many years I’ve carried a ‘Blueflame’ lighter, one of the blowtorch types which is much stronger than the normal kind.
