About this deal

Encourage the student’s creativity in naming their own book monster (for those that have the capability I also ask them to come up with a name that begins with the letter N). If the turn outs in the stories weren’t enough to make you laugh, the version I had had real holes in my ages showing how He makes his way through the books, and that alone is worthy many smiles. Have the student think through the ‘next steps.’ Where will the monster go next? What will happen in the future? The illustrations in the book are beautiful and will delight both kids and adults. The age recommended in the version was 3 to 5 years, but kids from all ages will enjoy not only be told the story, but going through the way (holes) the character did in the books. Have fun. I did! 😉

I've read this book roughly 82 million times because it is a favorite in my house. We've actually had it for almost two years and despite having books overflowing our shelves and access to the entire county library full of books, this is one that keeps making it's way onto the "PLEASE READ THIS ONE MOMMY" list. This literacy activity is incredibly simple, as it is intended as just a fun ‘filler’ project. But just because it’s a ‘filler’ does not mean that there isn’t the intention behind the activity! Nibbles the Book Monster activities can be fun and yet still have intention behind them.Author Guy Bass introduces SCRAP, about one robot who tried to protect the humans on his planet against an army of robots. Now the humans need his... Night Mayor Franklefink has vanished from the Transylvanian Express - and it's up to you to solve the case! Part of the Solve Your Own Mystery seri...

Edit: This post was written when there was only 3 Nibbles books available. Currently, there are four available. The winners of The Farshore Reading for Pleasure Teacher Awards 2023, highlighting the work schools are doing to encourage a love of reading, have... Anyway, despite my son's immaturity for Nibbles - or rather his too risky closeness to and absolutely predictable adoration of the toothy little rascal, I happen to enjoy reading this book myself every so often. It is both a simple joy and an inspiration, which never fails to bring a smile to my face. The ending is open ended, so I have hopes that we will have another Nibbles book! With new adventures! New books! I can't wait. :D This book is adorable. It is interactive and stars a wee monster that you gotta love even though he is naughty. He, like Houdini, is an escape artist, and when gets out of his cage he heads straight for his first love.... his love of eating books! Yep, Nibbles is a book monster!

The genre for this book starts out as fiction, but then switches to Folktale and Fairy-tales. The author creates a twist with the stories by throwing Nibbles into the stories and his tendencies to destroy and nibble things. The author and illustrator have created books within books that has the reader wanting to catch Nibbles and to see what shenanigans he gets into next. The different stories are unique to their book within The Book Monster. The grade levels that would enjoy this would be Kindergarten through 2nd Grade. I read the story aloud to my 1st Graders, who LOVED the main story of Nibbles, but also were excited to see which folklore or fairy-tale story would come next. They would always make predictions of which story would come next. Never heard of Nibbles the book monster? We need to fix this right now! Here’s where you can find everything Nibbles: As is the case with many of my activities, my favorite part is hearing what the pre-k students come up with for answers! They are so cute, funny, and clever. If you did this activity, tell me some of the answers your kiddos came up with. Kid quotes is one of my favorite parts of teaching and I’d love to hear what they came up with. Tell me below in the comment section! Nibbles the Book Monster Printable Here are some ways I am using this activity to produce some educational outcomes in my class. Learning Ideas for Literacy

Nibbles is a wonderfully appealing 'monster' and children will love the mayhem he causes. The story can also be used with older KS1 children to explore the idea of changing fairy tale endings by bringing in a new character. They will also enjoy reading the blurbs at the end of each story which have been nibbled - and so changed - by Nibbles; something they can practice when re-writing their own fairy tales! This adventurous book begins with the reader meeting Nibbles the Book Monster. He loves to nibble everything but his favorite thing to nibble is BOOKS! Most of the time, Nibbles is contained in his cell being good. But whenever he escapes, panic and mayhem always ensue. This time, Nibbles has escaped and is nibbling through different folktales and fairy-tales which leaves their stories a mess! See the crazy mess that Nibbles leaves in his path. Everyone wants Nibbles to be caught. Count out loud with the group while reading the book as well as with individuals while they complete the activity. counting exposure. This newest book is the simplest out of the three, but pairs wonderfully with many preschool units. For this week we are using it for our “N” week. If you are new to my postings, I teach a literacy Pre-K class that highlights a new letter of the week each week. All our activities and curriculum are based on that letter. The class is meant to expose Pre-K students to literacy and foster a love for reading. Nibbles The Book Monster: Literacy Activity OutcomesUse fine motor skills in decorating and creating their own nibble monster craft. Nibbles the Book Monster Activities – The Kids Answers The art/illustrations were gorgeous and lovely, they were just as much fun as the story was. Nibbles is drawn in a cute way, and I also loved seeing the fairy tales come to live anew with this artist's art. I still couldn't hate the little fellow, instead I just laughed at his cuteness and his total obliviousness to all that happened around him. Though at times you could see he knew what he was doing. The book is riddled with holes here and there, holes through which Nibbles ate himself a way out. I loved that they were added it made the book so much more fun. Some ideas for this book would be to discuss the similarities and differences between the folklore stories to compared to the original or a different version. There are many similarities and differences that the students could find. They could create a Venn Diagram to show the similarities and differences. Since there are a few different versions mentioned within the Book Monster, the teacher would have great examples to do a teacher model, a we do example, and a student do. Also, students could complete a sequence of events for the Book Monster to explain what happened throughout the story. Students could also write about what they think will happen next to Nibbles. Students could create their own story about Nibbles and his next adventure. Lastly, the teacher could have a discussion about how students know that this is a fractured fairy-tale/folklore story and how this story is different from nonfiction. I also have to give extra credit to the book cover. Normally books are paper and feel cold/hard on the touch, but not this one. It has texture, but also seems to not been made from paper but from fabric. I love it when publisher/authors do something special to their books. E little creature who likes to bite and chew anything, but has his heart on chomping books. And there he goes, eating his way through some classic fables from our childhood. I am a book monster myself, though I don't really eat books, at least not in the way Nibbles does. I devour books by reading them. :D
