About this deal

You don't notice that it's a slow burn because the plot is so gripping, then tension so high it's like eating your favourite dark chocolate; decadent and a little bit sinful. Full of unexplainable magic, where you're not sure what's science, and so packed with emotion it bursts at the seams. The way the story flicks between the present and past is materful and seamless, flowing perfectly as not to stutter the plot. I understand the cause of anger but not the intensity or why once they knew Cyn, their need to continue hurting her. I do have to admit that the current versions of Arden, Lorcan and Carrick seemed much tamer versions than what we got to see of their teenage years.

I really am going to be so incredibly sad when this author says farewell to this shared universe/interconnected world, these characters make their own families, they keep building it up with each new story, and the author letting us in on that is so amazing and heartwarming. This book was focused around establishing their history and giving the characters time to reestablish their connection to each other.

Loved hearing from Cyn again we met her in Their Obsession Duet she was known as number 13 and worked for the Masks. Each of them has their own motives and game, all of which intersect with their attraction, longing, and complications with one another- what a tangled web they weave.

In book 1 I found myself rooting for Lorcan since he is so devoted to Cyn and remorseful for what he did at school I found myself drawn to how resilient and string Cyn was and could not believe all the secrets and surprises we get at the end of the book. Some of the things they did to Cyn were downright awful but there were also so many sweet moments too mixed in. So bummed that it took me so long to get to this one, but also happy now that there's no wait to finish the duet.

To explain, it's set in a contemporary world but we've got clairvoyant characters who see visions of the future and an herbalist FMC whose so good at her craft some could argue she's a green witch! I am loving these story's from this author i have been waiting patiently to read about the Deana-Dhe after meeting them in The Masks books, it was so worth the wait as i devoured this first book and after that ending i need the next book like STAT! Read the triggers on these books and the Dancer and the masks books because if you're sensitive to dark and twisted content then these aren't for you. it wasnt a book that i couldnt put down, I would read a couple of chapters and then was ok putting it down for a while.
