About this deal

That doesn't mean I can't see the wonderful message or the beautiful aspect of having friends, it just doesn't work for me anymore.

Plus, Evie talked a lot about all the stigma around mental health and all I could do was scream "HELL YES" while reading it. Still, I have to say that this first book in the spinster club series was not a pleasant experience for me. Now, despite everything, I just can’t wait to pick up the sequel and I already know that I’ll binge read this series. Bourne deals with many important topics within mental illness, such as how we speak about it and how people suffering with mental illness are treated, in a way that really makes you consider your own life. I mean they literally discuss in the narrative that they should not be doing this while complaining boys are trash. No matter what, Evie was strong, nice and she inspired to keep getting better, but also to keep doing better. I finally picked it up last night, needing something quick and contemporary to break up all the war-torn literary fiction I've been reading in a sad attempt to finish my Around the World in 80 Books Project in the next 15 days.

Things like this really made me kind of bond with Evie and get even deeper into her character and the plot, but also I loved how whilst it was showing us her personality and entertaining us and everything, it was also educating its readers by giving us all of this information from the point of view of a teenager and somebody who’s suffering with the condition themselves which made it really easy to understand and empathise with, and I imagine it's opened up a lot of people to concepts about mental illness that they wouldn’t have necessarily been exploring otherwise.

At last a YA book has come along that challenges the mixed messages that modern society sends out to girls and introduces young openly feminist characters who I’m sure will become heroes to teen girls everywhere. I really enjoyed the style this book is written in, though it's very Young Adult which won't appeal to everyone. Holly Bourne, as usual, does not disappoint and delivers readers with another amazingly relatable story about teenagers.

She's made two new friends, Lottie and Amber, who don't know her as "that girl that went crazy", and men are starting to find her attractive. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice.

Along with her OCD, Evie is trying to manage the growing distance between herself and her best friend Jane now that Jane has a new boyfriend, as well as dealing with her own boy problems as she dips her toes back into the pool of dating. And of course the precocious little sister character, just seemed a thinly veiled psychology lecture. The spinsters still crush over cute guys, and they make some mistakes along the way, which leads to conflicts among themselves and with others people. If you are looking for a book that empowers women, and talks about relevant and important topics in life, this is the perfect book to pick. Soon, Evie is going to parties, on dates and making new friends, but as she becomes closer to the new people in her life, she finds it harder to keep her OCD hidden. Bourne makes Evie a relatable character to many teenage girls, with her interest in boys and relationships, her excitement about going on a first date and going to parties with her friends.
