About this deal

In houses, ants are attracted to crumbs of food or food left out, particularly fruit and anything containing sugar. They may also be looking for places to nest.

The microscopic worms travel through the soil, hunt down the larvae version of the pest, and kill them. Sciarid fly (also known as compost fly) or Fungus Gnats are a common pest of greenhouse plants in the spring. Adult fungus gnats only live on liquids, and don’t actually do any damage to plants. Their presence is just very irritating. If you tend to water only one spot, please be aware that this will potentially leave fungus gnat larvae in other, unwatered, sections of the soil. So make sure to water the full soil surface.Fungus gnats reproduce and develop optimally within overly moist or saturated media; therefore, moisture management is critical for preventing major fungus gnat outbreaks. 5 Fungus gnat survival is the highest when media is kept at a constant moisture level of 50%. 5 Growers should practice proper moisture management by allowing the crop to dry out between irrigations. Proper irrigation management also aids in reducing excess moisture on production floors and media surfaces, thus, reducing algal growth that benefits fungus gnat populations. Additionally, installation of cement floors or geotextile fabrics under growing benches and frequent removal of spent media under the benches can help reduce algal growth and discourage fungus gnat activity. 1 Physical Control Larvae: Vine weevil grubs can be controlled by watering into compost or soil a suspension of pathogenic nematodes. For best results nematodes need to be used in a well-drained potting compost or light soil, which must be moist. Treatment in August to early September should control vine weevil grubs before they are large enough to cause serious damage to plant roots. They look like microscopic worms. Technically they’re not worms though (for one, they’re bodies aren’t segmented, and two, they’re much smaller). They have their own phylum, Nematoda. Solarize potting soil and compost to sterilize it. To do so, place soil inside of a sealed plastic bag and pat it flat so that it is no more than 8 inches deep. Lay it on a raised location in the sun for at least a month—or two months or longer in cloudy places.
