About this deal

Wiel is likely a company not too many triathlon racers are familiar with in part because it is a fairly new company and also because they specialize in mountain biking products.

First, the RML is not that secure and is liable to send your bottles flying when you ride over rough terrain.Reduce overall system weight while improving integration compared to the previous generation SuperSix EVO. (Focus on reducing weight out of the handlebar, seat post and fork to take overall weight down) XLAB is the other company primarily known for manufacturing hydration systems which can be found in numerous Winner’s Circles from a wide variety of different triathlons. Still, the Torpedo Versa 200 makes room in an already crowded market by providing pretty much everything that the Torpedo Versa 500 does at a lower cost. Give and Take With ultra-aware road racing fans hooked up to social media 24/7 and with training rides, race results and spy shots of prototype bikes all being shared and going viral instantly it’s now almost impossible to keep a soon-to-be-released road bike secret. Factor in just such a bike winning at the very first World Tour race of the season at the Tour Down Under and you may as well hit ‘publish’ on the carefully crafted marketing material there and then instead of waiting patiently until launch day. Cannondale’s SuperSix EVO Hi-Mod frames shave over 100 grams from the conventional Carbon frames by replacing multiple layers of intermediate modulus fibres with fewer layers of much stiffer high modulus fibres, taking overall weight down while retaining all the stiffness and strength required for a responsive, brilliantly-handling race bike.

Remember, they will likely be using a fueling system as well, so it is more important that your hydration system feel as comfortable and natural as possible. While technically there are three primary mounts, the front mount actually has two different sub-mounts. All of that aerodynamic efficiency isn’t just down to those beautifully sculpted frame tube profiles. It’s Cannondale’s clever approach to total integration that also helps to make the SuperSix EVO so good at slicing through the air; by engineering the frame, fork, handlebars, wheels and seat post as one holistic system Cannondale have been able to significantly lower drag. In another nod to aesthetics the designers have partnered up with MOMO Design in Italy to create an all-new one-piece integrated handlebar found on the Hi-Mod bikes, which not only looks stunning but is super-aero thanks to its thin aero profile. For longer training rides, you can easily swap to a standard cage instead. But I don't recommend leaving them there on race day. There are other good places to put round bottles (between your bars and behind the saddle), you might want to consider other options than round bottles on the frame. On the other hand, Gerard Vroomen of Cervelo has publicly stated that in some cases, a standard bottle on the downtube can have a negligible aero penalty. But more recent data on modern frames (even by Cervelo) suggests that round bottles aren't the best option for frame hydration. It can also be mounted in a variety of arrangements, though this hydration does not come with a cage. Rear Hydration Systems

Carbon fiber is great for hydration cages because not only is it incredibly lightweight, but it is also incredibly strong for its weight. So long as you do not crash or have to ride over rougher terrain, the Wiel should work out wonderfully. Thankfully, the difference between mounting this product on an aero triathlon bike and the Wiel mountain bike frame it was made for are negligible.

BTA bottle

I've never used the latter, and I don't know whether they are very practical to use, nor whether I'd look like a douche, or even whether the bike (which is surely not a TT bike) will look awful with them on. And finally, I don't even know whether they'd allow any aero benefit. Evidence seems to be very inconclusive and will of course change from bike to bike. Some articles seem to say just 1-2 watts, others 6-7, others no benefit at all, etc. A 900ml round bottle is often used when an athlete is looking to be self supported, keeping all their own hydration on the bike. In all cases it was slower than the 500ml bottle, and was particularly slow on the downtube, costing a huge 8.2w at 40kph, and 3.5w at 30kph! Out of all the options tested this was the worst, adding up to 3min20sec over an IM bike leg. The bottle is made of BPA-free plastic and is much easier to clean than some of the other frame mounted systems we saw.
