About this deal

Honestly, I just wasn't expecting her to be as balanced and gracious in her relationships as she is in this book.

This is me getting real, raw, and taking my basicness (and hopefully yours) to the next level, because embracing those tendencies can give you the confidence to speak up and do things you might never attempt if you were hiding your truest, most basic self. Personally, I’m tired of people feeling ashamed of what they’re into just because they’re afraid someone might make fun of their love of bedazzled ranch dressing bottles or because they watched Kylie’s ten-minute pregnancy video more than once. I loved this book so much, it made me feel less alone as a basic chick, as well as making me laugh with it's honestly.

The lists were the funniest parts of the book, but I was a little squicked out that she had a "favorite serial killers" list. If you think chanting in a yoga class is the best thing ever, then good for you (even though it makes me want to gouge my eyes out with steaming-hot pokers). This chapter is so interesting because for the first time she becomes slightly self-aware saying, “I was ignorant because I am a privileged white girl who grew up without much adversity, so who the eff am I to make a comment about anything?

I started painting just this year due to the pandemic, having lots of free time, lots of extra anxiety, lots of it, so I started using art to distract myself —and through that I realized I have a true passion for art. So, you start to gather that this book is about coming into her own as a “strong woman,” and that her unabashed, F-U mentality is her contribution as a role model to women.Men never greet each other like this, and I wish women didn't put such value on the shallow and being fashion sheep and recognized each other for true accomplishments. I'm a HUGE Vanderpump rules fan so for me I was going to read this regardless of the style or content of the book. There’s something for everyone under Schroeder’s big basic umbrella” ( Elle ) and in Next Level Basic, the reality star, podcast queen, and ranch dressing expert gives you hilarious and pointed lessons on how to have fun and celebrate yourself, with exclusive stories from her own life and on the set of Vanderpump Rules . It gives you a sense of community and bonds you with strangers in a world that can be pretty isolating and harsh. However, this is immediately juxtaposed with moments of clarity only realized after crying her eyes out due to losing podcast sponsors.

I really don't know what I was expecting with this book, but I can tell you, I didn't expect some of it.However, her “embracing your basic-ness” message falls flat after the first chapter as in each subsequent chapter the message is recycled (almost verbatim) and starts to read more like, “embrace who you are no matter what anyone says. She is definitely a strong woman who knows what she wants and goes for it and stands behind other women and encourages them to do the same. This book reads like an audition for a bland lifestyle show on the Home network, and that’s disappointing.
