About this deal

Starting with Isaiah’s Dream, and ending with Wise Men’s Wonder, this book cleverly combines prose and poetry as the story of Jesus’ birth unfolds. Listen to James Finley explore lectio divina through the writings of the monk Guigi II on the Turning to the Mystics podcast. My precious child, My servant, and My friend, whom I have chosen, I have chosen you and have not rejected you. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will hold you up with my righteous right hand. All who come against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish. Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all. For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, do not fear; I will help you. Do not be afraid, for I myself will help you declares the LORD, your Redeemer. You will rejoice in the LORD and glory in the Holy One of Israel. Moses reminded the Israelites that God was taking them into a land of hills and valleys, of water and streams, “a land for which the Lord your God cares; the eyes of the Lord your God are always on it, from the beginning of the year to the very end of the year” (Deuteronomy 11:11-12). Marine litter is a huge ecological problem. Many countries’ coastlines are littered with plastic and debris, and there is an “island” of plastic more than the twice the size of Texas in the Pacific Ocean where currents have accumulated the debris. Fish become entangled in discarded fishing nets and lines, with bellies full of plastic debris they have swallowed.

A love letter from God — by Andrew Norbury A love letter from God — by Andrew Norbury

Life is full of hardships and heaviness. We have the promises of God to help us in difficult days, and we have the Holy Spirit within us. We have a purpose for being here—to refresh the memory of others regarding the things of the Lord. But we’ll soon put aside the tent of our earthly body, and what a relief! Goodbye hardship and heaviness. Goodbye trials and troubles. Hello Jesus! Hello heaven! Hello golden streets, glorified bodies, endless days, and the fresh air of New Jerusalem! When you are brokenhearted, I will draw close to you (Psalm 34:18) and cry with you (John 11:35). I’ll collect all your tears in my bottle and record each one in my book (Psalm 56:8). Like a shepherd holding his lamb, I’ll carry you close to my heart (Isaiah 40:11). I’ll comfort you in your time of sadness (Matthew 5:4), turning your mourning into gladness (Jeremiah 31:13) and your weakness into strength (2 Corinthians 12:9-10). I will put a happy new song in your mouth (Psalm 40:3) and give you a beautiful new name (Isaiah 62:2). Love Letters from God gives the biblical narrative in a new and fresh way. A special invitation from the author saves the best for last.” Peter wrote his final letter shortly before his execution. He wasn’t discouraged; he was looking forward to the future. He spoke of “looking forward to these things.” and “[looking] for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells” (2 Peter 3:13-14). Life changing prophetic word, in which you hear God speak about His love for you. His love will heal you more than anything else. Read: God loves you!You must know, Child, you are fearfully and wonderfully made ( Psalm 139:14). I knit you together in your mother’s womb ( Psalm 139:13), and brought you forth on the day you were born ( Psalm 71:6). Take caution though, as I have been misrepresented by those who don’t know me ( John 8:41-44). I am not some distant and angry Father. Rather, I am near you always…with you wherever you go (Joshua 1:9). I am the complete expression of a loving Father (1 John 4:16), and it’s my deepest desire to lavish more love and grace on you (1 John 3:1). Every good gift comes from My hand (James 1:17). I am your provider and I will meet your every need through faith ( Matthew 6:31-33). My plan for your future is filled with purpose; an everlasting hope (Jeremiah 29:11), love, peace and joy (Jeremiah 31:3). My thoughts towards you are as countless as the seashore sand ( Psalm 139:17-18). I rejoice over you with singing ( Zephaniah 3:17) and I will never stop doing good to you (Jeremiah 32:40). Trust Me, trust My Words, trust that you are My treasured possession (Exodus 19:5). I desire to establish you with all my heart and all my soul (Jeremiah 32:41). I desire to show you great and marvelous things (Jeremiah 33:3). Adapted fromJames Finleywith Kirsten Oates ,“ GuigoII: Dialogue One,”November 8, 2021, in Turning to the Mystics, season 4 (Albuquerque, NM: Center for Action and Contemplation, 2021)podcast,MP3 audio. Look to Jesus as he carries his cross to Calvary Hill and as he’s crucified to forgive us of our sins and reconcile us to God, our loving Father. This is the perfect, unfailing love that we long for! In Jesus and through his death and resurrection the heavens are truly opened to us! Repeatedly I’ve deepened my appreciation for God’s love by going to the cross of Christ. I do this with you in my booklet of Gospel stories, meditations, and prayers: Unforsaken: With Jesus on the Stations of the Cross.

God’s Love Letter to You! - Soul Shepherding God’s Love Letter to You! - Soul Shepherding

If you need a victory in your life, begin every day by renewing your faith in Christ in whom all our victories are to be realized. Since I care so much for you, don’t worry about getting your needs met and don’t worry about tomorrow (Matthew 6:25-34). Just as I look after the little sparrow, so will I look after you (Matthew 10:26-31). So give your burdens to me and let me give you rest (Matthew 11:28). Talk to me when you’re anxious and let me put you at peace (Philippians 4:6).

Thank you

A century-and-a-half later, another prominent couple, British this time, began a lifelong habit of exchanging love letters in the days of their courtship. Winston and Clementine Churchill’s daughter collected seventeen hundred letters, notes, and telegrams exchanged between her parents between 1908 and 1964. Like the Adams, the Churchills were each other’s intellectual and expressive equals, frequently declaring their love in unguarded, written messages. The book culminates in an invitation for children to join Jesus’ team, and to write their own RSVP to God.

Listen to me, My precious child; I created you and have cared for you since before you were born. I will be your God throughout your lifetime, until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you. I will carry you in my arms, holding you close to my heart. For I know the plans that I have for you plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. My precious child, know that everything will work together for your good, because you love me. You have been called according to my purpose. For I knew you before you were born and I predestined you to be conformed to the likeness of my Son, Jesus Christ. This is your destiny, and this is your purpose, that you become one with my Son Jesus, and thus one with me. I created you in my image so that you and I can express love to each other. The most intimate relationship you can have is with me because you and I are becoming one. You and your brothers and sisters that believe in me are becoming one with Jesus, and thus one with me. You in me, and me in you, together, unified by my love for you. You were designed for this purpose, nothing else will ever satisfy your deepest needs, your deepest desires, only I can. Because you seek to know me I satisfy your heart with love, joy, and peace that only I can give you.Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying, “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I tell you.” California is a dry state that needs water to be transported over many miles to population and agricultural centers. Snowfall in the winter and melting snow in the spring are critical factors in replenishing shrinking reservoirs. In periods of modern droughts, aerial photographs document the receding water levels in reservoirs around the state—shorelines growing wider and drier as water levels fall. In mathematics two of the basic kinds of numbers are integers and fractions: 2, 100, and 56 are integers, while ½, ¼, and 2.5 are fractions. Integers, from a Latin root meaning “whole” or “entire.” The word integrity comes from the same root; a person with integrity cannot be divided in beliefs or morality based on varying circumstances. Make sure Christ is at the center of your life and that your love for Him eclipses everything else!

Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. I know you try to fill yourself with all the temporary things of this world even though I gave my Son for you. It breaks my heart. You fall and make mistakes; you do things you regret. You know what it means to stand in the heat of temptation feelingrotten because of how strongly you are tempted by your lusts. You understand the feeling of dejection when you give in to temptation in a moment of weakness and when it feelslike things could never be made right again. You might have feltat one point that God is angry with you. You might even have doubted that you have received forgiveness. Daily meditation practice goes best as we learn to stand firmly onthefirst rung of the ladder to heaven. By this I mean learning to be attentive to God’s voice reverberating in a poem, a novel, the refrains of a song, a report on the evening news, or a conversation overheard in the waiting room at the doctor’s office. In learning to stand firmly on the first rung of the ladder to heaven, we learn to be receptive and open to God, uttering us into existence as we wash out a pot, or fix a broken gate, or slip off our shoes at the end of the day. [3]We can imagine a child writing an appreciative and sentimental memoir about her “perfect father,” understanding that “perfect” was not intended to be taken literally. But how about a book titled The Righteous Father? The patriarch Isaac could have written that book about his father, Abraham. Jesus said He was going to prepare a place for you if you belong to Him (John 14:1-4). The New Jerusalem, on the new earth, is that place. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. You fall and make mistakes. You do things you wish you had never done. You know how it feels to be in a great temptation and to feel horrible because you are so strongly tempted by the lusts and desires in your human nature. You know how miserable it feels when you give in to temptation in a moment of weakness and when it feelslike things can never be made right again. You might feel that God is angry with you. You might even doubt that you have received forgiveness for what you have done.
