About this deal

Capullo: I just thought it had a lot of potential to make an interesting story with Spawn and Batman here. As Todd pointed out, they've been around for 400 years, under Batman's nose, without his knowledge. That mystique alone makes it something that's very salable, and I knew that if I gave this element to Todd, he'd be able to come up with something cool. Right away, out of the gate, he's got me creating a more fierce and dangerous Talon. I knew that if I gave him something, he'd give me more fun material to work with, and he has. Ab and Zab create a hell where visitors are forced to view their deepest fears, which are eaten by demons called sin-eaters. While confronting Ab and Zab, Spawn is faced with his own sin against Wanda and his unborn child. Unable to break free from the guilt, Spawn is parasitized by a sin eater. When Nyx interferes, he breaks the sin eater's illusion. Spawn breaks all the other's illusions and comes across Al Simmons' brother Richard. a b c d "Points of Articulation: KIMOTA! Neil Gaiman vs. Todd McFarlane, part 2". OAFEnet. 2004-09-01. He has to eat a piece of Forbidden Fruit from the Garden of Eden to gain such power. She tells Spawn must fight against The Disciple. It is revealed there are 12 Disciples, each one representing one of Jesus. Spawn's power is also weakened because demons cannot enter the Garden. However, with guidance from Cyan, he defeats every Disciple but Judas, who Cyan tells Spawn not to kill. Judas then stabs Cyan in the heart but the Mother gives Spawn a piece of the fruit and resurrects him. He gains an angelic form and greater power.

It's fairly easy for us to show a guy [getting] emotional and [crossing] a line from time to time because we would. I would say, on some level, it's Al Simmons' Achilles' heel, that he can't control himself. He's not as mature and sophisticated a thinker as Bruce Wayne, and we're going to be touching on that in some of their conversations. Couch, Aaron (2021-06-08). " 'Spawn's Universe' Sets Sales Milestone for Image Comics". The Hollywood Reporter . Retrieved 2023-05-22. Newsarama. 2013-03-25 . Retrieved 2017-01-12. To me, let’s let it sit, let it ferment, let it do what it has to do, let time pass by," he says. "And then all of a sudden, maybe someday Greg and I are in a position and we go, “Hey, remember that thing we did many years ago? Maybe the kids are ready for sequel.” Here, well, the art is definitely McFarlane’s least striking, I could even go ahead and say is the laziest he has ever crafted. Is it horrible? Not necessarily, but if you dislike his work, this won’t change your mind about him. There’s only a couple of panels that look interesting, or at least, “attractive”, but the rest feels disproportionate, specially when referring to Batman’s physique, particularly in the eyes, who often look bigger for the size of the head, and this is just McFarlane trying to mimic Spawn’s design; you can clearly see he tried to make the two of them “similar”, but the shape of one don’t mix well with the other. Ugh. just trying to interpret some of the writing in this issue gives me a headache. The only reason I felt like I could follow this at all is because of my familiarity with recent Spawn storylines, and indeed with McFarlane’s writing “style.”

I understood Final Crisis and I can’t understand Batman/Spawn. What kind of topsy-turvy world am I living in?!) Zera reappears as a head in a jar. Spawn is summoned by a voodoo priestess named Mambo Suzanne. Zera attempts to take over Nyx's body and fights Spawn. However, she is killed when Suzanne throws Zera's head into the street. Nyx is freed and she and Spawn become friends again. Capullo tells us with no small amount of excitement about little Clown minions (miniaturized versions of Spawn’s archnemesis, Violator, who takes on the appearance of a disheveled clown from time to time), and about the new Talon, the chief assassin of the Court of Owls, that they get to introduce in Batman Spawn. “There’s just too much fun stuff,” he says. “It’s like Todd is force-feeding as much fun into this thing as he possibly can. And he’s delivering the goods.” Spawn: Capital Collection (January 1993)– contains issues 1–3 (note: this was a limited edition hardcover exclusively available from Capital City Distribution, and only 1200 copies were made) Todd McFarlane here....Unedited and Uncensored! AMA!: IAmA". Reddit.com. 2015-02-11 . Retrieved 2016-04-28.Another bonus for Capullo was getting to draw characters he co-created with Scott Snyder as the main antagonists of the story. The Court of Owls debuted a decade ago in Batman (Vol. 2) #6. The secret society made up of Gotham’s most powerful citizens has been controlling the city from the shadows for centuries. The Court replaced McFarlane’s original choices for the villains, a super villain team-up of the Joker and the Violator, after the deal to do the comic was sealed and he jumped on the phone with Capullo.

Finally, a 1:1000 signed main cover by both McFarlane and Capullo will be available. Spawn: New Flesh Collection (December 2007)– contains issues 166–169, plus a short story from Image Holiday Special 2005 Todd, you've worked on Batman before in "Year Two," along with all of McFarlane Toys' Batman figures. Greg, you've been drawing Batman since at least 2011. What is the appeal of the Dark Knight to both of you as storytellers and artists? IGN also had the chance to briefly chat with Lee about the experience of contributing to the crossover. In particular, we were curious how Lee felt about reuniting with fellow Image Comics co-founder McFarlane 30 years after they and their colleagues left Marvel to form their own, independent publisher. Is it surreal to be making comics alongside Todd McFarlane again? Immortality (to an extent, powers drain when used and full drainage of powers results in a second death)Batman Spawn #1 serves as a reminder of the potential inter-company crossovers have for creating excitement across the industry and ultimately driving fans to comic shops to buy the book. After all this, I feel like I’ve trashed my man Todd too much so I also want to give him a shout-out. He isn’t my favorite artist of all time (still Top 10 easily) but he has had a greater effect on my art and even who I am as a person than any other artist. I’m generally not one to become personally attached to creators but as a source of inspiration and perspective, he has meant a lot to my artistic journey. In fact, I don’t know that I would be here writing for Batman News if not for him. So, I’ll close with a simple thank you regardless of whether I can recommend this comic or not. McFarlane adds that having creators with substantial ties to the title characters also makes a difference. What they did not get around to doing was actually giving this new character a name. “There was never a point [in the script] that says, “And I am __,” Capullo says, punctuating it with a laugh. “But we probably should go on record and give him at least a working name. “ Weiss, Josh (September 3, 2019).
