About this deal

It was the first time reading one of Cathy's, and I found her writing style to be somewhat simple, which in turn made it difficult to follow. Yes, I appreciate some people are new to her books but most are not and we don't need to read it in every book. On top of that, this was written during the height of Covid, so there's constant talk about restrictions and social distancing and hand-washing, and I don't think an editor ever looked at this because there was a lot of repetition and grammatical issues that an editor would have caught in an instant. Sometimes you need to look through her matter of fact sentences to find emotional meaning and inferences, e.

a lot of people complained about the covid references- personally i didn’t mind them and i found that they were relevant to the setting. But gradually they began to settle and as they did they talked more of life at home where there were a lot of arguments between Ashleigh and their parents. This memoir toys with the readers emotions as they try to find the truth within this family's chaos. She could have been prosecuted for wasting police time because of the lies she told, but she received a warning instead and accepts she did wrong. Yes, they are unique and tragic stories of individual children, but the themes reflect the experiences of millions of children across the world.

Cathy is very diplomatic in the way that she discusses and interacts with the families of the children she looks after, a characteristic which shines brightly throughout this particular story. This case took place during the coronovirus pandemic, and the guidelines about social distancing and mask wearing made a considerable impact for the workers and children involved. The police and social services have no choice but to remove two-year-old Jamey from home after his mother leaves him alone all night to go out partying. When he first arrives with foster carer Cathy Glass, he is scared, hungry and withdrawn, craving the affection he has been denied for so long. Way too much detail and the whole time you’re wanting to get to the end to find out the truth but mainly just to get it over with. Cathy instantly began labelling Tim with names although as a Foster carer she shouldn't have been using those titles.
