It’s a Guide We are embarking on a new series on the Seerah of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). The life and times of the greatest human being who ever lived and walked on the face of this Earth. This series is based on the lectures by Dr. Sh. Yasir Qadhi on the Seerah.

Qur'an is the primary source of the Seerah because the Quran was revealed during the lifetime of the Prophet (ﷺ). Therefore, it is catering to situations that arose during the Seerah. The Qur'an references almost every single major incident in the life of the Prophet (ﷺ). It even explains events before his prophethood, such as: The word Seerah comes from an Arabic verb that means to traverse or journey. So Seerah, meaning the biography of a person, is called Seerah because you are traveling that person's journey. You are walking in their path and following in their footsteps. So when we study the life and times of the Prophet (ﷺ), it is as if we are following his footsteps. At later periods, certain type of stories included in sīra developed into their own separate genres. One genre is concerned with stories of prophetic miracles, called aʿlām al-nubuwa (literally, "proofs of prophethood"—the first word is sometimes substituted for amārāt or dalāʾil). Another genre, called faḍāʾil wa mathālib — tales that show the merits and faults of individual companions, enemies, and other notable contemporaries of Muhammad. [2] Some works of sīra also positioned the story of Muhammad as part of a narrative that includes stories of earlier prophets, Persian Kings, pre-Islamic Arab tribes, and the Rashidun. [2]

Many academics have devoted their work to both types of writings equally from the 8th and 9th centuries. According to certain historians, the Seerah and Maghazi literature is a subset of Hadith. Al Sira Al Nabawiyya PDF Studying Seerah Of Prophet Muhammad will finally lead to Muslims truly following Muhammad (PBUH). Seerah makes it possible to follow him in his totality. Finally, people wrote books on the histories of the cities of Makkah and Medina, called Tariq Makka and Tariq Medina. So by reading the Tariqs of Makkah and Medina, we can also extract Seerah. So these are the primary sources of Seerah. Modern-day researchers have added sources that were not found earlier in Muslim lands. For example, there is a new genre of research, looking into what the Romans or Persians said about the Arabs of the time.

Isa (AS) will say, 'I am not fit for this undertaking, go to Muhammad (ﷺ), the Slave of Allah, whose past and future sins were forgiven by Allah.' Some of the other sources of Seerah are histories of the Sahaba. People recorded the accounts of the Sahaba, and by studying the histories of the Sahaba, you extract Seerah. Discrepancies compared to non-Muslim sources. But there are also similarities and agreements both in information specific to Muhammad, [15] and concerning Muslim tradition at large. [16] [11]There are so many books of Seerah for the children that these are the stories that our children should be raised upon. Lessons and Wisdoms: Benefit from the deeper meanings, wisdom, and lessons extracted from important historical events. The greatest of those who wrote was Urwa, the son of Zubayr ibn al-Awwam (RA), the grandson of the Sahabi (Abu Bakr). His mother is a Sahabiya (Asmā' bint Abu Bakr), his grandmother is a Sahabi, his brother is a Sahabi, and his aunt Aisha (RA) is the wife of the Prophet (ﷺ). However, he was born after the death of the Prophet, so he is not a Sahabi. So the first person to be resurrected and the first person to understand will be our Prophet (ﷺ). So he is saying, I am al-Hashir, the one that is signaling the Hashr. By his coming, He is signaling the coming of the day of Judgment, and by his resurrection on the Day of Judgment, he will be the one after whom everybody else will be resurrected. A'isha (RA) reported that a person asked Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) as to who amongst the people were the best. He said:

That is why the early scholars of Islam, the Sahaba, Tabiun, Taba-tabiun, would teach the Seerah just like they would teach all of the other Islamic Sciences. We come across Seerah, most of the times, in books where it is sometimes mentioned as a fact. We just read through it casually as we read any other fact, not realizing that Seerah holds a lot of significance. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had to go through all of those ‘facts’. Learning about Seerah does not mean just reading a book, it involves contemplating, pondering, reflecting, and deriving lessons from it and applying those lessons in our lives. It requires developing a spiritual relationship and a bonding with Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

A hadith and a historical account (Seerah) are structurally quite similar; they both include isnads (chains of transmission). If one storyteller should happen to mention a raid, the next storyteller would know the date of this raid, while the third would know everything that an audience might wish to hear about. [13] In the case of Ibn Ishaq, there are no earlier sources we can consult to see if and how much embroidering was done by him and other earlier transmitters, but, Crone argues, "it is hard to avoid the conclusion that in the three generations between the Prophet and Ibn Ishaq" fictitious details were not also added. [13] [14] [11] There are lots of Hadith books. The most famous ones are six of them. They are called the six famous books; Kutubu-Sittah. Some call them as-Siaha-as-Sitta. So these are the primary books, but there are many other books of Hadith. Reading Seerah is not just for entertainment. When you read personally or gather in a halaqa to know about the life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, this will act as worship. Many people think that Seerah and Sunnah are the same, but that’s not true. Sunnah is technical and it involves only excerpts from Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) life. It consist of narrations from his life and includes what he said, did and approved of.
