I must add, though there wasn't a book where I appreciated all of the poems, I do find more poems I love in Hanson's books than in any other. The first step is to decide which elements I want to focus on in my painting. For example, I could decide to focus on a brilliant sunset sky, in which case I would make the foreground indistinct and dark by contrast. I could focus on the different colors I see beneath the waves in a coastal painting: here I would dramatize the size of the waves and the various hues of green, turquoise, blue, and purple, using the white foam as contrast. I might focus on the abstract shapes of light I see between the branches of an ancient oak tree. In this case I would select which branches to paint that would make the most interesting series of negative spaces. I compose all my paintings to communicate a specific focus within the landscape.

With this project Stephanie hopes to remind her girls and the rest of us that life is magical and that we should always think big – what if you fly? I think most of us have witnessed the social media community come together around crises and social issues, and I hope Stephanie’s project will be another beautiful instance of community engagement and support. Did you receive any valuable advice from art instructors along the way that still serves you today?Everyone who’s ever told me that it’s helped them in some way. I know how much words can help people, so if mine have the opportunity to then I’m happy. Personification: the speaker personifies the mirror, suggesting that it is intrinsically untrustworthy. One has to assume that it’s going to lie to them, she suggests. I've read Reverie before buying this one and I feel that her writing skills are getting better each time. When I paint, I want to capture the joy I feel whenever I surround myself with nature, and I use composition, textured brush strokes, and contrasting colors to communicate pure aesthetics. When I paint, I lay down my brush strokes confidently and boldly, trying to recreate the freedom and spontaneity I feel out of doors. I try not to overlap my brush strokes, getting each stroke right the first time. This keeps my colors pure and alive. To me, the beauty of the outdoors is all about color."

While these are some of the more depressing poems in the collection, I found that they spoke to me the most. Likely because of the classic rhyme scheme that reminded me of the children's poetry books that I used to read. But I also found that the way Hanson talks about mental heath and some of the "Monsters" that are in here head were a perfect way to describe the way that many kids in my generation are feeling.Open Impressionism is best described as abstracted, contemporary impressionism. The brush strokes are loose and expressive, conveying a sense of movement and transient light. Because the brush strokes are applied alla-prima, without layering, the paintings have a mosaic or stained-glass quality. The underpainting is allowed to appear through the brush strokes, giving the painting a sense of underlying light. Erin Hanson is the creator of the contemporary painting style "Open Impressionism," which is being taught in art schools and colleges worldwide.
