About this deal

The 685 is capable of decent milk texture by pulling the panarello off and putting a cable tie on the rubber pipe. Checkout my friends at Coffee Hit, one of the UK's most established suppliers of pro and home barista gear. I know you absolutely recommend the Bambino Plus, my question is… do you think it’s worth it for me as an upgrade, considering I have the modded Dedica that is working mostly OK for me? At only 15cm wide, the De’Longhi EC685 Dedica Style boasts a sleek design for minimalist kitchens, and allows you to handcraft your perfect coffee in minutes thanks to its range of superb features. If you want a more authentic home espresso-making experience, then keep reading – as the DeLonghi Dedica is a semi-automatic traditional espresso machine.

I’ve had mine only 4 years and it’s broken down completely once and now struggling as I didn’t take good enough care of it. The DeLonghi Dedica does feature automatic preinfusion though, and this will help to some degree in this regard. I suspect it may just be a program that blasts a smaller amount of water at the puck of coffee at full pressure, then pausing before continuing.

Lower cost, domestic espresso machines are not the same as the higher cost machines made for the home barista market. I’m still considering it today but I don’t want to spend the time doing all the mods right now, maybe I’d very slowly get there… what I want is to eventually have a setup where it just takes me a couple minutes to get GREAT coffee, and not an entire brewing ceremony every day. What you don't want to see is “spurters” or multiple streams of espresso, both of which are signs of channelling.

Unreliable and poor performingThis machine was great for the first 2 months, then it failed intermittently thereafter. I’ve been using the trick of removing the panarello and steaming with the rubber pipe and was achieving some decent milk texture, but after a couple of weeks use the pipe just seems to rapidly froth and stretch my milk in a matter of seconds with no control. But it's still a thermoblock machine with a 9 bar pump, I can't help thinking it should be about fifty quid cheaper. Even if you only put a tiny amount of milk in the jug, it ends up overflowing because of how much water it in putting in, and it does not froth at all.Would I be better off getting capable grinder (thinking of the sage grinder pro) to go with the Dedica or upgrade the machine with the Sage Barista Express where it has a grinders part of the machine?

I upgraded to the sage barista touch last year and while it can pull a lovely cup I find it much more work and hassle (in spite of the supposed quality of life improvements and touch screen). To be fair, once you’re dialled in, using the classic doesn’t have to be that huge of a ritual even without mods, the temp surfing routine is just something you need to get into the swing of, it’s not a particularly time-consuming thing. When it comes to coffee machines, there are many different kinds of machines, there are many different options, and the machine that may be right for you may be completely wrong for the next person to land on the same post. Use the PulyBar® "Igienic" cleaning spray each day to ensure hygienic conditions on all surfaces where food is prepared. Took a while to work out the right grind (can't be too fine) and about every second time the pressure is normal, but in the past few months it will regularly lose pressure and the sh . Bean to cup coffee machines are also espresso machines, but they have a grinder, and they handle most of the work for you.
