An adaptor for Sony’s A-mount lenses is available separately, so it’s easy enough to do a ‘sidegrade’ if you have a Sony Alpha SLT camera system that you want to swap out of. While it doesn’t have the retro gorgeousness of a Fujifilm model, there’s a certain simplistic appeal. But as well as the resolution boost and improvement to the AF system, the new camera makes some very nice upgrades to the handling so we’d be sorely tempted to save a little longer. The A7R IVA and A7 IV have a trick up their sleeves that wedding and portrait photographers love - Eye AF.
That said, we’ll have to wait until we get a final retail version to conclusively assess battery performance. There's also a new dedicated red 'record' button for shooting video and a lockable exposure compensation dial. Colours are beautifully vibrant, while the scope to customise colour output in camera is very much appreciated. Most notably, the A7 IV has a 33Mp Exmor R BSI (backside illuminated) CMOS sensor which means its pixel count is 36% higher than the A7 III’s.
