About this deal

This dual-channel preamp offers versatility with its two fully independent foot-switchable channels. Channel one covers the spectrum from bluesy, British-voiced cleans to a robust Plexi-style roar. Switch to channel two, and you'll instantly recognise the higher-gain Friedman signature voice, characterised by its percussive punch, note clarity, and enduring sustain. Both channels come equipped with their own independent and highly customisable boost circuits, effectively giving you access to four distinct channels with a simple tap of your foot. The idea of an impulse response is to capture all of that information in one go, so you can instantly recall that setting. This means that wherever you are, you can retain your preferred tone, right down to the detail of your favourite mic placement and room sound. On stage, in the studio, jamming with friends – sorted. Impulse responses – the scientific bit The H90 does an amazing job of marrying your more run-of-the-mill delays and reverbs with some of the weirder pitch-shifting effects to make something that’s perfect for the sonic explorers. If you feel like you’ve tried every effect out there and nothing is quite cutting it for you, then this powerful bit of kit might be the perfect choice. Cramming not only the sounds of those units, but also a full-colour screen into a unit the size of the HX Stomp is certainly impressive and no mean feat. With MIDI in and out, there’s clearly been some consideration for those that want to incorporate the HX Stomp into a rig controlled by a pedal switcher. In that context, it’s easy to see the attraction. You also have Two Notes products such as C.A.B. M+, but again they give you a lot such as reverbs, tuners, a clean preamp…etc

There’s a simplicity and ease of use that has massive appeal. You could simply use it as a tabletop recording tool to instantly give you the sound of a great amp recorded at a decent working volume with professional mics in a nice-sounding room (without the need for amp, mic or room). A new effect niche was born. In the following decades that technology evolved further in the direction of “modeling software” through Impulse Responses (IR), a system able to capture the sonic character of any existing amp and cab (including your own!). So you can directly use TC Electronic Impulse IR loader as a pedal platform and connect your guitar pedal board and convert your rig to a DI-ready solution. Apart from sounding a bit crispier in comparison to how IRs sound through an IR loader plugin, I think the overall experience, ease of use, features and price tag is unbeatable. It gives so much freedom to just have an arsenal of your favourite IRs in an extremely compact pedal. TC Electronic did not hesitate to cooperate with one of the leading guitar speaker manufacturers, Celestion and already included their legendary IRs in the TC IR Loader pedal. Also, last but not least the factory IRs’ extension! This is a bit weird as they decided to come up with “.uli” extension. 🙂 Sounds like Uli Behringer wants to leave his marks even in the file extension realm. When it comes to finding the best pedal amp that strikes just the right balance, look no further than the Strymon Iridium Amp and IR Cab Simulator. Not only does it offer a range of amp and cab combinations with versatile EQ controls including room ambience, it’s also compact and easy to use. When TC Electronic released the original PolyTune pedal in 2010, they revolutionised the way we tuned our guitars and basses. Fast forward to 2022and they have done it again with the Impulse IR Loader!Featuring25 built-in IRs, 12 official Celestion cab models and 99 IR slots, the Impulse IR Loadermakes the process of working with impulse response files effortless. Simply drag and drop your favouriteIRs over USB or use the dedicated IR organizer for PC and MAC.The Impulse IR Loader will take care of the rest and ensure you sound like the best!If you are one of my regular visitors, you are probably aware of the gear I’m featuring in here. For the IR loader, I have been using my ENGL Cabloader for almost 2 years now without any issues. However, using the Cabloader has made me realise some design flaws in my use case scenario. Apparently, it is designed to make you use ENGL’s own speaker cabinets with a variety of microphone and power amp simulations. It already gives you an infinite number of possibilities. But you can only load 4 external IRs and you should be careful as some of the controls such as distance and centre controls still affect the external IRs. I think this is a design flaw. In terms of functionality, this pedal amp can be plugged straight into a passive cab as an amp head, as a tube preamp, as a practice amp through your headphones or as a DI amp for your DAW. In fact, this might be one of the best uses for The Amp, as it offers a lot more natural, nuanced tones than most plugin amp emulations. Testing out a multi-effects pedal is a fairly straightforward procedure, and similar to testing a standalone stompbox. Although the quality of pedals is subjective - like many pieces of musical equipment - there is a set of criteria that every pedal should meet before we recommend it to anyone. You may ask “ Why would having lots of impulse response options give you that flexibility?“. If you just do some research and watch some comparison videos, you will understand the reason.

As ever though, our advice is simple. Work out what you'll realistically want, need or use. Be clear on your budget. Don't be distracted by extra bells and whistles - unless that’s what you want. Are multi-effects pedals worth it? I also hear built-in Celestion IRs a bit crispier than expected. But I’m not sure if this is a design flaw or anything. I have also no clue whether an IR should exactly the same going through a plugin vs going through an IR loader pedal. Also, I believe this should be tested with as many IR loaders as possible for a more solid conclusion. Acoustic and Pedal Platform IRs The real star of the Orange Terror Stamp, as you might expect, is the gain control, and users can expect this to cover pretty well the full spectrum. While it might not fulfil those with ultra high gain needs, it does take pedals well.

While all of the amps/cabs sound classily authentic anyway, you can open the whole sound up to whatever degree you need with the sense of realistic space provided by the room reverb. Verdict If our list of the best pedal amps was based on appearances alone, this would easily take the top spot. And while that is one of the best things about it, Milkman Sound’s The Amp has more to offer than just good looks. A class-D, solid-state power amp with a proper 12AX7 preamp tube, it offers between 25 and 100 watts of power.
