About this deal

It’s a story that demands you sit up and pay attention, lest you miss one of the cleverly-laid clues the author has hidden throughout the book for readers to uncover, and it’s also a story that ensures you won’t want to do anything but devour it .

Owen Pick now lives in his aunt’s house after losing his teaching job on the grounds of sexual malpractice—something he continues to deny.Frank insists that he is not as bad a person as Mark, saying of his actions “It makes me wrong, but it doesn’t make me a monster” (page 302). Alice lives in a tiny house with her children and the stray animals that she's picked up over the years. There’s something special about a book that can manage to be intricate and binge-worthy all at once, and it’s this intoxicating combination that makes Lisa Jewell’s psychological thrillers such a hit for me.

I’m so honored to be able to reveal the cover for Vanessa Lillie’s buzz-worthy new mystery here on CBTB today! I was fully invested in this novel and these characters, whether I loved or hated them, they all felt quite believable. For example, you could read news articles about “Benjamin Kyle,” whose true identity was discovered in 2015 using DNA testing after eleven years of investigating. Things however take an unexpected turn when Karl, who gets an amazing job as a London DJ, gets drawn to Cheri. We first meet Alice, a single mother of three children, who finds a random man sitting on the beach outside of her home and offers him a place to stay after she discovers he has no memory of who he is and how he came to the beach. Three main stories comprise the narrative: A man who has repressed such an awful memory for 22 years that it has put him in a fugue state.

Jewell alternates her chapters between multiple points of view: readers will follow not only Joey, but also Freddie, a teenage girl named Jenna, a troubled woman with a mysterious fixation on Tom, and more. As the Russian army repels German forces from Stalingrad, Maggie Hope takes a much-needed break from spying to defuse bombs in London. It’s no surprise that when she spies a man sitting on the beach in the pouring rain, that she tries to help him. On a dark and stormy night, Alice Lake, looks out her window and sees a man, sitting out on the beach, alone. I intentionally read a couple of Christmas mysteries during the Christmas season… and I absolutely loved it.Both Lily and Alice are attracted to men who have done terrible things in their pasts, and feel on some level they shouldn’t love anymore.
