About this deal

Bottle conditioned brands are Young's Bitter at 4.5% abv, Young's London Gold, and Young's Special London Ale, a 6.4% abv strong pale ale which was awarded a gold medal for bottle conditioned beer at the 1999 CAMRA Great British Beer Festival, and received a Grand Gold Medal at Monde Selection's World Quality Selections in 2010. The Panel noted that the product had been subject to a similar complaint in 2008 and on that occasion the Panel had not upheld the complaint under Code paragraph 3.2(f). The Panel, however, decided that in view of the length of time that had since elapsed, it should not necessarily be bound by that precedent. The Panel considered that it should be responsive to changes in the prevailing climate in society including the growing focus by local authorities on products that were believed to be disproportionately consumed by problem drinkers. The producer responded by saying that upholding the complaint would be a direct contradiction of the Panel’s ruling on the same product in 2008, and the producer believed that there was no evidence before the Panel that the product was disproportionately consumed by problem drinkers. Wells Bombardier – marketed as the 'Drink of England' with a strong link to English Heritage, it is a 4.1% cask beer, in bottles at 4.7% abv and canned at 4.3%. In 2009 Bombardier introduced the Cask Beer font. [7] In 2010, 4.5 million litres of it were sold in Italy. [8]

Lobbyists say super strength drinks contribute to premature deaths and the phenomenon of 'young-olds' where people exhibit the health problems of people 20-30 years older than their biological age. Kirin Ichiban | Our Lagers | Wells and Young's Brewing Company". Wellsandyoungs.co.uk . Retrieved 17 February 2012.The producer went on to say that the complainant had misinterpreted the Government ‘guidelines’ as ‘limits’, and nonetheless, the guidance was that consumers should not ‘regularly’ exceed the guidelines. In its view the guidance was to discourage sustained daily consumption and recognised that consumption may fluctuate from day to day with no harmful effect. If the Panel was to decide that a non-resealable container, typically used by one person, encouraged immoderate consumption then that decision should surely apply to wine bottles with corks, 660ml and 500ml beer bottles. The Panel’s assessment The Panel wanted to understand whether there were strongly held cultural assumptions which influenced the way consumers would respond to drinks in cans. In a survey by YouGov [1] of over 2000 adults, 80% of those surveyed believed that a 500ml 9% abv can was designed for the contents to be consumed by one person in one sitting. The data was similar for a 440ml 4% ABV can. The data also showed only 2% of people thought these cans were easy to reseal once opened. The Panel shared this view. Consumers would not share the contents of a can, or reseal it saving it for another drinking occasion, the contents would instead be consumed by one person in one drinking occasion. verifyErrors }}{{ message }}{{ /verifyErrors }}{{

Storescould lose their alcohol licence if they continue to sell 500ml cans of some high strength lagers after the end of March. Retailer Alert Bulletins (RABs) issued by the Portman Group last month advised retailers not to sell Carlsberg Special Brew 500ml, Skol Super 500ml and Kestrel Super Premium 500ml 9% abv cansafter March 31. This complaint focuses on the particular contradictions arising from the marketing of these products. These drinks are produced in 500ml cans that cannot be resealed and contain four and a half units of alcohol. Typically they are consumed by single individuals…the consumption of a single can takes the individual above the government’s own daily alcohol unit guideline limits of 2-3 units for a woman and 3-4 units for a man. The social side effects of super strength are of such concern to Westminster and Ealing Councils that they have persuaded large supermarkets to remove these drinks from their shelves. Bottled beers which are not bottle conditioned are: Young's Double Chocolate Stout, a 5.2% abv stout which contains dark chocolate essence and chocolate malt; and Young's Ram Rod, a 5% abv beer named after the Dorset Horn ram that lived in the Ram Brewery stables in Wandsworth, and on which the company's trademark is based; Wells Banana Bread Beer, A beer brewed with fairtrade bananas which is sold filtered and pasteurised in bottles at 5.2% abv, and unfiltered in the cask at 4.3% abv.

In a bid to move away from 'super strength' and to focus on the brewery's core brands, the Kestrel brand was sold in October 2012 to the company's managing director. [9] Young's beer range Young's [ edit ] I had this beer one time in England, from a 500ml can. I was looking to get drunk, and I saw this in the convenience store, and remembered hearing Devvo (http://www.fat-pie.com/chavs.htm) singing about it, so I thought, "hey, Kestrel, I gotta try this." Thames Reach's frontline services say they have considerable evidence of the rapid deterioration in health caused by super strength alcohol. Brewery and company headquarters in Bedford Wells and Young's beers [ edit ] Charles Wells [ edit ] In January 2007, Wells & Young's bought the brewing and marketing rights of the Courage brands, Courage Directors, Mild, Light Ale and Best from Scottish & Newcastle. It has subsequently rekindled production of the famous 10% abv bottled Courage Imperial Russian Stout initially for sale in the USA. [11] S&N kept a minority stake in the brands until 2011. It says, "Tennent's Super is brewed to be enjoyed in moderation. The brand was originally owned and brewed by Sunderland-based brewer, Vaux; it was bought by Young's Brewery when the Vaux brewery was closed in 1999, and by 2008, the brand was transferred to Charles Wells beer.[4] As well as selling its beers to Charles Wells and the Young's pubs, Wells and Young's supplies free trade and other pubs, as well as supermarkets.

In the Commons an Early Day Motion tabled by Battersea MP Martin Linton is calling on the Government to curb the sale of super strength lagers by taxing them at a higher rate.Conclusion of review and brewing merger with Charles Wells Ltd" (PDF). Yes, they are also consumed by people with alcohol dependency problems - that does not necessarily mean that they are irresponsibly marketed". Let me first say that, while I fully appreciate quality beer (Baltic porters, English bitters, and lambics are some of my favorite styles), I also appreciate beers that will get me drunk cheaply. I don't like nonsense beers like Bud Lite and whatnot, but I have no problem drinking, for instance, St. Ides. This is that sort of beer. Kirin Ichiban, a 5% abv pale lager, brewed under licence for the Japanese brewing company Kirin. It is brewed using the unique Ichiban Shibori brewing process, the most expensive in the world. I would have thought that any self-respecting drinks company would want nothing to do with these drinks," says Jeremy Swain.
