For example, this paper's strength, effectiveness, and absorption scores are all well above average in a very competitive class. It's worth noting that the Ultra Soft's absorption results set the bar for the rest of our test lineup. More than being high quality, this TP offers consumers good value as well. Angel Soft is as cheap as Kirkland Signature at about two cents per square foot, we get the sense that Kirkland Signature is a better value. However, our scores show that they are actually pretty even. Seventh Generation Softness is of the most important factors consumers take into account when choosing a brand. We graded for softness on a scale of one to five through direct touch. Perforation test In our objective testing process, Charmin Ultra Soft wasn't perfectly durable, but it was pretty close—and thankfully it didn't tear during use. It took just under a minute to dissolve in water, which means it will fall apart in the toilet (key for avoiding potential septic issues) but not while you're doing your thing. Intuitive assessments of function and value validate our mathematical approach and vice versa. What we propose with the use of our proprietary "Effectiveness Coefficient" isn't inherently unique, nor is it fully necessary. We would plant Angel Soft brand toilet paper firmly as a middle of the road brand. It received very average scores in almost all categories. The embossed texture looks sparse and crude next to Quilted Northern.Before you forgo all paper products, many experts tell us not to be alarmed, as we absorb far more BPA from handling plastic and aluminum food containers. They claim that the risk to exposure with toilet paper is miniscule, at just a few micrograms per gram. Georgia-Pacific, the makers of Angelsoft and Quilted Northern, describes a method called “ creping” to soften, strengthen and fluff their toilet paper. While the paper is drying on a large cylinder, a large metal blade scrapes the surface to create the “creping.” We found this method was common with other companies as well. Again, we couldn’t find any formal statements about formaldehyde-urea resins or newer PAE compounds that release by-products like MCPDs. Solenis explains in technical detail the development of “wet strength resin” used in the papermaking process to strengthen wet paper, and it seems clear that PAE has replaced formaldehyde-urea as the resin of choice, but that just means there are new byproducts to be monitored. Although we're fans of all three types of Charmin toilet paper we tested, Charmin Ultra Soft is the best toilet paper money can buy. The double-ply roll from Charmin combines solid durability with unparalleled comfort. Although the Ultra Strong roll from Charmin is more heavy duty, extended use made it clear that the supreme comfort of the Ultra Soft is more important.

Sustainability : Recycled paper is the most sustainable option for toilet paper, but you can also opt for bamboo rolls. These types of toilet paper didn’t perform as well as most premium brands in our evaluations for properties like softness, durability and absorbency, but they tend to dissolve easily and are better for the environment overall than standard toilet paper.
