I have used Marvel Mystery Oil in the fuel on my vintage 1975 Norton Commando 850 motorcycle since I bought it new in 1975. Most of the older bikes use air-valve type carburetors. They use a sliding air valve "piston" instead of a butterfly plate to regulate throttle opening. As such the air valve "piston" is subject to wear as is the bore of the carburetor that it slides in. This causes these vintage carbs to literally wear out, just like a piston in an engine cylinder. The solution is to add MMO to the fuel... about 2 ounces per 3 gallons.
