About this deal

But overall, I really did love reading this. Again, I know not everyone does, but I just love Stephanie Garber’s writing and purple prose so much. I completely connect with it, and it completely immerses. I always feel like I’m there for all six nights of Caraval, in the castles, carriages, balls, and cathedrals. Also, these books and their settings are such aesthetic goals, I swear! Plus, this entire series is such a love letter to morally grey characters! I can’t wait to see how this all wraps up in the last book, Finale. Think whatever you want, but if you honestly believe that’s the only reason im here with you right now, you are not nearly as clever as I thought” Please don’t stop such and interesting speech on my account. I’m sure I have heard far more colorful curses” “—Did you just insult my use of profanity?” “—I thought I asked for more dirty words”

well, i don’t have more to say so let’s stop here. overall i’m very disappointed with this book. sigh. the best part about reading it is that i had the chance to buddy read it with my bestie and we had a lot of fun. she made my experience a little better and for that i’m grateful! 🫶🏼 i am so invested about what's going to happen with scar and tella's mom, is she a villain? what was her reason for leaving the island? why did she give up her secondborn, and what's going to happen to her in finale? the unanswered questions are killing me, stephanie garber knows how to write an epilogue and cliffhanger. stars -> rounded up to 3 stars. Perhaps I'm being generous, and maybe I just really wanted to love the book. I was so excited about it and so prepared to love it like I did Caraval. But I'm glad I didn't buy this book because I would have regretted. I'm happy to have had the opportunity to review it (I was supposed to post this review two months ago, whoops), but I would have regretted spending the money on it. I will read Finale but it'll be a library request from me. The Tella division line has been drawn. Here I thought I would be dragged to the Tella-lovers or Tella-haters side, but I walked willingly to the Tella-why-oh-why-are-you-like-this-*pull out my hair* side. I don’t hate Tella, but I also definitely do not like her. How she treats Scarlet is the main reason! I am all for a free-spirit, but when your free-spirited-adventure-self leads to you constantly lying and forgetting about your sister after declaring how much you love her and would die for her… yeah I’m not for it. Scarlett seems like an afterthought to her. And again just like Caraval, this had the sister bond be more tell than show. Tella is the definition of letting intrusive thoughts win every time - in the commentary, one liners, and random biting (don’t even get me started on that last one). I’m not heartless though. I did feel for Tella some moments, but her dummy-dumb actions led her to the road she chose time and time again. Tella wondered if Legend's games ever ended, or if his world was an endless maze of fantasy and reality that left those caught inside it forever suspended somewhere in between the two”This time we’re not on the island of the first games. This time we’re in a big city and there are new characters we get to meet. Noble, Barnes &. "The Ballad of Never After|Hardcover". Barnes & Noble . Retrieved September 22, 2023. First things first: I didn’t really like Caraval. Sure the world was great and the story was pretty cool, but I hated Scarlett and I didn’t really like Julian. Scarlett Dragna is the main character in this story. She has never actually set foot off of the small island where she lives. Scarlett lives on the tiny island with her sister Tella and their father, who is powerful and cruel.

Dante had been more than a little nasty to Scarlett during Caraval. He worked for Legend, so it had only been an act—but although Caraval was over, it was still somewhat difficult to weed out the bits of fact from fiction. And Tella didn’t want her sister further hurt because Tella had chosen to have some fun with a boy who’d been so cruel to Scarlett during the game. Tella tossed her sister a grin. This was exactly what she’d hoped for. Although a part of her still couldn’t believe the rumors she’d heard over the past week were true. Caraval only occurred once a year, and she’d never known of two games being played so close together. But Tella supposed even Legend made exceptions for the empress. Her pulse danced faster as she hid her friend’s letter and opened her smallest trunk—the one she’d not allowed the players to rifle through during Caraval. She had filled it with money pilfered from her father. But that was not the only treasure it concealed. The interior was lined with an unappealing burnt-orange and lime-green brocade that most people would never look at closely enough to notice the slit along the edge of it, which allowed her to hide the catalyst for this entire situation: The Aracle. This book also deepens our understanding of another grey character: Legend. After much buildup, the shroud of mystery surrounding his identity is finally lifted, and the reveal is perfectly executed. You will be wondering right up to that moment who Legend is. Is it Julian? Dante? Or someone else entirely? Y TELLA? TELLA SWEETIE PERDÓN PERO NO TE TENÍA UNA PUTA EXPECTATIVA Y ME VOLASTE LA PELUCA. Pero qué pedazo de protagonista la re puta madre, les voy a dejar una quote que la describe
